Hey guys,

Signed up my sister for a Cingular contract 2day for the $39.99 plan .....and the salesman...threw in another 150 minutes FREE...so she got 600 minutes for only $39.99.... i believe it includes free nationwide LD and 3500 nights and weeekends.

I don't know if this offer is valid nationwide.... I got this in southern cal....

you have to be careful abou this, because you can't automatically assume that you have LD. Here's my plan:

400 peak
additional 150 peak
unlimited nights and weekend
$39.99/month

nationwide LD - $4.99/month

before this they didn't have the additional 150 peak so I got 400 peak/unlimited n&w/free long distance for $39.99

So total I pay $45/month now for 550 peak minutes, unlimited n&w, and free LD. I would check the contract again or call cingular customer service to make sure.. one false assumption on my end costed me a $300 bill..

hmm....i'd beware of the 2 year contracts. within 2 yearsd both AT&T and cingular should be on the new gprs system. thatwill mean better and cheaper plans with better service. don't getlocked down!

How did you get that deal with Sprint PCS for that price?? How long ago did you get it?? I am trying to get a new plan/new service because I really do not like Sprint anymore. Dropped calls and I personally think their phones suck...

I would not recommend anyone getting Sprint PCS. I had it for 2 years, it was great at first for a year then recently service (customer and reception) has just dropped horribly. I live in NY (which supposedly has the most towers per area) and I constantly get network busy and dropped calls. I heard from one of my friends who is a representative for sprint that since they do not do credit checks anymore, there has been a huge surge in sign up's clogging the network. Here's a plan some may like which I'm signing up for:
Voicestream
3000 ANYTIME REGIONAL Minutes
remember this is regional, as I have Northeast, the minutes can only be used to call from Maine to Maryland, you can use them anywhere in those areas. Its not nationwide but I use it mainly in NJ, NY and upstate, NY which works out perfect for me. Its only $59.99 a month for 3000 anytime!
They have plans for different regions around the country. It's a new plan not posted on the website, you have to go to the retailer to sign up, plus I recieve a free Nokia 3390 with it too.

tommigsr, do you have some kind of corporate plan or get majorly hooked up for a $10/month plan?

actually, cingular rolled out their new plans around the beginning of february...nationwide LD on all plans...plans $29.99 get 3500 NW minutes. so unlimited NW are gone (att did the same thing). most people won't even use close to 3500 NW minutes, much less comprehend unlimited NW minutes so that's the reason they say they changed the plans...

as for text messaging, it's on a pay-per-use basis or you can buy them in bundles...like $2.99 for 100, etc. i know some of my friends on the old pac bell plans still have unlimited messaging...but that's the exception.

and i would have to agree to not get locked down in a new contract...voicestream and att gsm should be launching soon, though voicestream is sharing towers with cingular, but att will have their own... verizon's new america's choice plans let you roam nationwide on sprint's network for free....and like hoomza444 said, gprs is coming very soon (if it hasn't already..parts of arizona supposedly have it and so does northern cali, for cingular)

personally, i can't wait to get rid of cingular...they say they're spending $600 million on upgrades, and while it's happening, it's too slow and service here in LA is really suffering... check out the cingular petition and sign it, if you're a suffering cingular user-- Text

good luck.

FYI, I have Cingular, and first I gotta say, their customer service sux

But here's my $.02:

My deal, which I believe they still have is $39.99 for 500 daytime minutes, UNLIMITED Nights and Weekends (Starting at 9:00 P.M.), and that includes long distance and voicemail (Dude threw that in for free, otherwise I think it's an additional $2.99 a month.) I love this plan, cuz with this I don't even have an apartment phone.

(This is Tennessee just so you know.)

TOMMIGSR, when you switched from Cingular was it at the end of you contract or were you penalized. I have CINGULAR :| I want to go to another company but I don't want to pay a stupid penalty for their horrible service. Does anyone have any advice ???

I currently have Cingular, but would not recommend anyone to get a 2 year contract. The only reason I stick with cingular right now is to keep the phonenumber. I really wish to switch to sprint or at&t

First of all a few people here say "don't get sprint it sucks blah blah..." It depends on your location. In some areas Sprint is excellent and others it is not. It's the same with all carriers. Some are strong in some areas, some another. Sprint is awesome here. Good enough that I do not need a land line. Actually Sprint has some of the best phones. I look at the other guys phones in Best Buy and think they're junk.

To get the deal I got, you can not be under contract. Call Claire at *2 and say "Cancel". You get connected to the retention department. You tell them why you are thinking of cancelling, what deal AT&T or another company has and that you have a friend who got the deal I talked about above, and if you get that deal you will give it another chance. You will have to sign a 1 year agreement to get it.

I also get a 15% corporate discount off of that price.

Anyone know if Sprint is giving Pacific time zone customers the 8pm instead of 9pm cutoff?

you know, cingular is not that bad. Granted I don't get reception in certain areas, but I've been with it for a few years now. The reason why I chose cingular is for its plans and the calling area. Every person is different, so different plans/company may be suitable for one person but not for another. It also depends on location as well. One company might be more dominant than another in that particular area.

A company that I recommend to stay away from is WorldCom. I signed up thinking it was cingular cuz they were selling the 8290 for cheap. It was a cingular plan but through worldcom. At that time I signed up for the 29.99 for 150peak/unlimited nights and weekend. They won't change it to the current 250 peak that cingular is charging even they it is a supposedly cingular plan. Plus, they charge me 9.99 on top of that for the unlimited nights and weekend. I have to call every month to get that taken off. But yeah, that's my experience. Never gonna go with a third party provider any more.

Valvoline.....

I agree, it depends on the location of how good your service is. I also have bad experience with the network being congested. As for the phones, I have the Samsung 8500 and it is starting to crap out on me. I want the replacement for that model, but who knows when it is coming out. Everyone I ask said that it should have been out by now. I tend to prefer some motorola and nokia phones, that is why I kinda do not like Sprint phones as much. If they had the motorola V60, I would be set...

well I just resigned my 2 year contract with Cingular in Dallas. Service is very good, and I haven't really had any problems with Customer Service, even if they don't always know what I want, at least they are very nice and try to be helpful. I got the Nokia 3360, which is a TDMA phone, for only $25 when they were running a 1/2 off sale at Christmas. My current plan is 400 anytime, unlimited nights & weekends (starting at 9 pm), free nationwide LD, and voicemail for $40/month. Cingular (which is the old Southwestern Bell Wireless) here in Texas also gives me free roaming to all the other major cities in Texas and even to Oklahoma (but who would wanna go there?). I really recommend them here. Signing a 2 year contract might not be the best of ideas, but I got such a cheap discount on my phone for doing it ($150 actually, which is the cancellation fee) so it was worth it. I also didn't want to change my phone #. AT&T has a slightly better deal going on here, 600 anytime, 3000 n+w at 8 pm but they don't have LD included, but they do allow you to receive messages for free (Cingular charges $.10/message to send and receive, the same that AT&T charges to send). Oh well

Valv - excellent point about the service area depending on your location.

Everyone's going to have different horror stories for all of the providers, me included. Although I do have to say that if anyone in So. CA has a Cingular phone that's not working, take it to the Cingulat store on Main and Jamboree in Irvine. They replaced my broken Nokia 8290 with a brand new one without any questions. I even got a new battery, and convinced them to let me keep my old faceplate along with the new one!

Other than that, I havent had very good luck with their customer service.

Just got my 600 minutes.....called and got it today! I previously had the 400 min plan, with free unlimited nights & wknds, free nationwide long distance and unlimited mobile to mobile ($9.99/mth) for $49.99/mth. Now I have 600 mins with all of the above and free mobile to mobile for $39.99/mth. You just gotta talk to the reps and work tha magic with them. Not a bad deal I think. Only thing is that they will issue me a lumpsum credit at the beginning of my next cycle ($10 credit x 2 mths = $20) since my contract expires in April so I will still have to write out a check for $49.99/mth. The rep even said that if I were to continue my contract for another year that she would issue me $120.00 credit ($10 x 12 mths) at the beginning of my contract. I did try to get unlimited txt msg but it didn't work...ah well, can't get everything...so I'm paying $2.99 extra for 100 msgs. Regardless, this is a sweet deal.

:disgust: WHAT THE HECK :disgust:

Up here in the Northeast (MA to be precise) our plans sux, Why?
Heres a comparison of $39.99 plans

Voicestream 500 anytime unlimited weekends (no nights though)
Cingular 400 anytime 3500NW LD nights and weekends starting at 9pm (yuck)
Sprint 350 anytime 3650NW LD nights and weekends starting at 9pm
Verizon $35 350 anytime 3000 home airtime nights and weekends start at 9pm
AT&T 600 anytime 3000 nights and weekends start at 8pm

AT&T is probably our best deal but we have to sign up for two years to get 600 anytime minutes instead of 400.

I really want to know why other parts of the country seem to be getting much better deals.
