I wouldn't say cingular sucks everywhere in so cal. I know it does suck in LA.. especially around the UCLA area. My god it's horrible there. system busy left and right and you can't even get calls since system is busy.. but down in south orange county, it's fine. i love going home to my parent's house!

i say avoid cingular if you're anywhere in CA

it's crap here in the bay area, my friends bitch about it all the time. although it's not as bad once you start heading south or north, in LA it's impossible to get a signal out with the constant SYSTEM BUSY message. once you go north past davis it's impossible as well. i tried for 20 minutes to get a call out once to call home (cheaper long distance and during off peak hours) and finally gave up, it was rediculous.

i'm actually canceling my service to pacbell/cingular tomm to switch to the ATT Regional 120 plan. sure i get crap worth minutes, but the service is considerably better and i get free long distance and no roaming, all i need is 120 minutes. i seriously don't think you need more then that if you don't have a long distance relationship or anything, i mean we all have aim right ?

Around here Cingular used to be cellular one. When they were cellular one if you made a call to a landline (non cellular to cellular) you were charged a fee (I think it was called carrier access fee) of 2.5 cents a minute. Does this fee still hold true?

I got a Cingular 3390 from Staples and get $100 GC from Staples. I don't know Staples still offers this deal. $100 GC is for any phone, not just for Cingular.

To answer your question, freejack, that policy was abolished.. I went in to a cingular store with the intention of buying a phone/plan with them and my first question was about that policy. The woman had no clue about it and called up some place and was told that they did away with it.

Cingular's coverage in Michigan (Detroit / Ann Arbor area) is great. Since thats where I'm at 90% of the time, I love it. Nights don't start until 10:00 here though!!!

What in the world? That's practically morning already. Geesh! Unless you're calling people on the west coast, where it'll be 8:00pm, that's absolutely useless. I mean, you can't even call people about dinner plans anymore!

Hence, peak minutes are becoming more and more valuable.

1) That $100 GC from Staples is no longer good. Its over with. Been there didnt do that.
2) I have Cingular and I am in South Orange County. Its good but sometimes its like the coverage is either really good or non-existent. I sell cell phones (at Staples, yes I know, shut up about working there). I asked our Cingular rep about the sudden lack of coverage. He said that when PacBell wanted to go national (with Cingular), the FCC forced them to get up some coverage on the West in order for them to get more coverage on the East. I believe they just traded coverage with a company called VoiceStream.
