The deal is just too good to believe. I would have to check it out myself. Given how fast these little stores go out of business, I would only sign up if I get a check on the spot.

Versizon is also on my high list. I got burned with Cingular before (in the bay area) and don't want to fall for the same trap again. But the $$$ is tempting just a bit fishy especially for 1 yr contract.

btw, what was the website where I can compare receptions/coverage?

I think Cingular now has the best receptions. They put lots of money into upgrading. This is a great deal for cellphone user and make money.

I live in Orange, CA. I am a Cingular customer. I have the Family Talk plan with 2 other lines. So I could add one more. How do I go about doing this and getting this money you guys are talking about? It is too far for me to go to S.G. Valley. Is the plan called something?

When/How did you get 1000 min for the $39.99 plan? I am only getting 600 minutes and 5000 N/W when I signed up last month. Isn't the 1000 minute the $49.99 plan?

Just go to the store and tell them you want to add a new line to join the family plan. Sign the one year contact and you'll get a $200 check if you don't get any cell phones.

I think you will have the original 3 lines extended for another years contact with the new line you are adding. So it may or may not be worth it depending on how long you are into your original contract and what your Family Talk Plans is now (minutes + $9.99 per line?).

Don't forget you have to pay taxes on each line! I currently have the $50 plan with 3 family lines ($20*3)... total amount for our plan is $110. However, bill without going over our allowed minutes is $127! That's almost 5 bucks of tax per line per month. So the taxes for an additional line for one year comes out to be $5*12=60. For 3 lines, that's $180. Doesn't this kill the majority of your savings??? Just wondering, how much tax to the rest of you cingular customers pay currently... am I the only one paying this much for tax?

Is this deal local to SGV, or should I check around the authorized dealers here in Greensboro?

I believe it is local deal. I went to a few Cingular stores, and they all want full price for a phone and 2 years contract. Only Bestbuy has 1 year contract.

Hey ckmoocow, why don't you switch over to the $10 per family talk plan and save yourself 30 bucks a month?

loudmouth: You can just call Cingular and tell them to give you the new plans, I am pretty sure the plans are similar (if not the same) all around the US.

question...

I don't even have a cell phone right now. If i get a new plan/phone with cingular, then I add say just 1 other phone for a "family plan", then I pay 9.99$ a month and get a lot of cash back?

Yeah, I would.... but my family plan, although 20 bucks per line, comes with mobile to mobile. You can add mobile to mobile on the new plan, but it would actually come out to 10 bucks more, since you would be 50 + 3*10 (3 additional lines at 10/line) + 4*10 (add mobile to mobile for 4 lines at 10 bucks a line) = 120. Compare that to what we are paying now, 50 + 3*20 = 110. The new plan actually comes out to 10 bucks more for us. And we need the free MTM because we are always close to our 1000 minutes. Getting rid of MTM would definately put us way over our allowance.

So i'm still wondering.... how much do all of you cingular customers pay in taxes each month??? Please let me know, cuz if i'm paying a lot more than all of you, i'm gonna give cingular a call! :frown:

Oh ok, you have THAT plan. =)

Um, quite a lot. I think taxes were basically 10-11 dollars for 3 lines last month for me. :|

Too bad it seems like the 7-7-7 plan won't help you much huh? It would only be $14 for your whole account to get the night minutes to start at 7 p.m.

And for people who are curious, I am pretty sure this is how it works. The store that you get this at receives, not quite sure, let's just say $220 commission for your family talk line activation (somewhere around $200). What they were supposed to do was use some of that $2XX to cover for your new phone, and keep whatever left over as profits. But most of the stores know how to do some shady things so that they can send the info (IMEI mainly) of an older phone up to Cingular, pretending that you activated that instead to receive the commission. Therefore, you can just activate without a phone and get the money back.

And yes, the stores are so desperate they are willing to make like 10 bucks (again, I am not quite sure about the commission). I hear that it's real tough staying in the "Asian Cell Phone Store" business. Plus you have to watch out because, some of the more dishonest stores will sell your credit card info, SSN even, and then disappear/change names.

Yes, the stores are on commission probably about $200 per new activation and probably $100-150 extra per family line added. Cingular does not care if the phone you will activate is brand new or a used one of your own. Therefore, the reason why some stores will give you a $150 check for not getting a new phone may even be better for them since most of these phones retail for more than $150.00.

I read your statement and dont really understand what you meant in the last line of your first paragraph. They send the info of an older phone up to Cingular, pretending that you activated that instead to receive the commission? The fact is they will activate that one and aren't pretending anything. Therefore, it's not really "shady"

Other practices common among Asian retailers is that if you are up on your one years contract and want to renewal for another year without getting a new phone, they may offer you say a $100 check instead for renewing for another year. The store will most likely get a commission maybe less than a new contract but it's still counts as a contract and probably commissioned a little less probably $150 lets say which is still $50 profit. Or you can close your old account and sign up for a new contract (under a different family members name) and get a new phone or get $150 (as we are discussing here) since now it will be a new customer contract but you will have to pay the activation fees and the annoying prorated first month. It's the same thing if you call Cingular (instead of going to the store to renewal) they most likely will give you about $100 "equipment upgrade" credit if you extend your contract for another year since they get you for one more year and not have to pay commission to the retailer.

Personally for me, I have always signed up a new contract each year (since I dont really care about my phone number changing) and I like getting a new phone each year. I think after one year and with technology changing, I want the new stuff and a change. Plus, like I said the phones I tend to get retail over $200 compared to the $100-150 check is not worth it for me. Just my opinion I hope this helps.

You only got 150 per line you didn't get a phone for? I helped my friend sign up at a place in Alhambra that gave you 200 bucks back.
