the cell phone store i went to gave me a free t610 and another for 150 and is paying for the other 2 lines for the whole year.

You only got 150 per line you didn't get a phone for? I helped my friend sign up at a place in Alhambra that gave you 200 bucks back.

It's called AG and it's on valley... however i think yesterday was the last day for them too... but u never know.
Anyways, i know the samsung s307 is an expensive phone... i wanted one too and i think they said the phone costs like over a hundred bucks or something... so maybe they gave u the phone for free but deducted it from the rebate they are giving u?

dude.. i heard one of my friend said the samsung s307 is free.. i was like crap..
but the one i got from econ wireless.. yea it is in SGV area i think.. on mission ave.
is a 300m model, which is tri-band , so i can use it when i travel around
but still i felt i got ripped off pretty bad on the tax......
when i called to cancel it, they were telling me that i have to pay 30 dollar per line and restocking fee for the phone : \

aslo, since it is 300m so it doen't have rebate ..

this is how much they gave me back on the spot .. they just wrote me a check for $344...

$10(monthly) x 12 = 120 + $18 (act.) = $138 x 2 (two lines) + 18(act. for the 2nd family line) + 50 (instant rebate on the phone) = $344...

but the tax... the tax is the part i forgot :\ 5 x 4 lines = $20 x 12 months = $240...

The tax might be less than 5 bucks/line for you, since each family line is only 10 bucks, whereas mine was 20/line....

I am almost certain it's ~$200 commission for a family plan, and more for a "regular" plan. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to give you the $200 for opening just a family talk.

And what I meant by pretend was, well at least this is how it worked back when I worked for a cell phone store.

Cingular requires an IMEI with each activation, and the IMEI has to be "new" as in, never activated before. So the stores used to somehow find used phones that were never activated, submit it as a new line, and just keep the commission instead of using it to pay for the new phone. I believe it's similar to what they are doing with this. Unless of course Cingular doesn't require a new IMEI anymore.

well crap i think it should be $200 per line too, since 9.99 x 12 month + 18 (act.) + tax = about 200, that's the money i should get back.. but i guess econo wirelsss juss jacked it

Sorry, I meant S307 for my first phone, S56 for my second one and A56 for my third. I did not get the "check w/o phone" option.

oh! Now I uderstand the OP You guys are trying to make out on top from the $100-$350 cash (not getting the phone on your extra lines) > $9.99 extra line Family Plan. LOL, I was totally thinking of something else I think

careful though since it's something like $10 x 12 month + 18 (act.) + approx $5x12 tax? + $2? first month prorate = $200 already

So if you are not using those extra lines then it might not be worth it but if you are going to use them, then it's almost free

Make sure you guys get the check on the spot. I've known alot of companies that say they will mail you a company check later only to close up shop and run away.

Also, Cingular reception still sucks compared to Verizon. Too bad Verizon's phones kinda suck compared to Cingular.

Just a heads up, the deal is still good. Although I wasn't able to find a place that would cut you the check right on the spot but I'm pretty sure some stores will do it due to competition.

This is to turtleman. When you found out you overpaid did you try and cancel the contract? I believe cingular has to let you
cancel the contract within 15 days, due to that 15 day grace period thing. You can't refund the activation fee though.

Well yea, actually it is the first 3 day , but I've also signed another contract with the store saying that i can't cancel blah blah
but neway i did call the store within the first 3 days, which they told yea sure if you want to cancel bring the phone in
and we will cancel the line for you and each line is like 30 bucks and plus the re-stocking fee for the phone which he said would cost me about 50 to 100 depend on how many mins i used already and blah blah, and he is like oh yea you better come now bc the wait time right now is about 1.5 hours ........ i was like ..............wtf.. so that's it

I'm already a subscriber to Cingular, and want to get the Samsung S307 phone. Can I get a better deal from the Monterey Park stores than I would get at a normal store if i sign up for a 1 year contract extension or 2 year contract extension without gettting a family plan? Any comments?

Getting a check on the spot isn't always the issue. I've known a couple cell phone stores that issue you the check the same day, but they're post dated about 2 months because they have to wait for commission to clear. However that gives them plenty of time to close up shop and take off. So i'd be a bit concerned about that. The promotion is an awesome deal, but everyone should keep in mind activation fees and taxes per line, all that can add up and you may end up spending more than you originally intended.

My sister just got a Cingular plan from a store on Naomi & Baldwin in Arcadia. She told me that they were offering 300min anytime minutes + 5000 N&W on the $19.99 plan. In reality, they actually signed her up with the $29.99 plan but they gave $120 cash on the spot for signing up with them. So essentially it is $19.99/month for that plan after the cash back. Plus, they gave her Sony Ericsson T616(or you can get Samsung S307) free of charge and will also mail out a $100 check in 2 weeks for her. I know the tax will be higher for her at the end of the month because of the $29.99 plan, but in the end she gets a plan, a free phone, and $220 cash. Good nuff.

So MysticWar, she ordered a new plan right? I wonder what an upgrade from an existing plan will get you?

Yeah she signed up for a new plan. An upgrade will probably get you a handfree, holster, a piece of candy, or nothing.
