CircuiCity Going away soon?BestBuy winner?

If CircuitCity goes away, BestBuy will no longer have a direct competitor at least in NY. The only competition left is PC Richards, 6th Avenue, and Microcenter. I personally don?t shop at PC Richards or 6th Avenue, reminds me of The Wiz. How does that affect us techno junkies? no more price matching, no more stores competing with lower prices.

what do you all think?

CC stock down to 0.27...

Thats in the city, I'm Long Island... and yes there is one Microcenter in NY, its in Long Island.

I have always disliked Circuit City. I can't remember even once seeing something I wanted from CC, even with sales. Best Buy I like for individual sales, not so much their regular inventory. PC Richard is pretty much a rare visit for me, and I've never visited Microcenter, though I do get and read their catalogue in the mail. Never heard of 6th Avenue.

I dislike CC also and rather buy from BB. But sometimes they have good deal and almost every week they are selling cheap DVD movies. But without competition Bestbuy doesn't have to lower prices etc. etc. Although i'm sure they will have to this Christmas season because of the economy.

I like how CC told BlockBuster to fuck off when BB offered them $6 a share to acquire the company earlier this year. CC is now 40 cents a share. Epic Fail.

I prefer CC over BB due to lower prices. If they go down, less competition is never good.

Occasionally they'll have a deal on DVDs or PC games, but I've found their customer service to be abominable, even for a retail electronics store.

yeah CC costumer service and checkout process are the worse. But the new CEO just said that they want to change that.. yadda yadda.

I prefer Best Buy over Circuit City due to the historically better looking girls over at my Best Buy. But lately it seems most of the girls have been replaced by guys over at my Best Buy so it's a big fat sausage fest now.

True. I'm a bit worried, because Comp USA is already gone, with nothing to fill its void. If Tiger Direct and/or Fry's were to step up and enter the market here, it could make for some interesting competition. I wish NY had more B&M computer stores, but apparently they can't compete with online stores without jacking up the prices (which inevitably pushes away potential customers). I think having a physical presence in NY, especially the city, must be too expensive unless they can clear loads of inventory (which most places can't).

My closest Best Buy is an hour away, so if this happens I will not have a major electronics retailer within a viable "let's go check out new shit" drive.

that said, i do shop there. when i know exactly what i want. i also look to make sure there is no return merch sticker on it, as those items werent shipped back and checked, then repackaged. they were taken to the back, shrink wrapped and put back on the shelf. its also the one store that has all the jelly bellys you want to find. nummy jelly bellys.

Fry's doesn't need an opening, they already are whooping BB -- they are growing cautiously, as a good business should. They won't overextend themselves and pull a Krispy Kreme that way...
