Circuit City 120gb HD deal gets HOTTER YMMV

Last week I bought 2 of the 120gb Circuit City HD's for $139.00 each
With the $120.00 in rebates, my cost was $19.00 each.
Went back yesterday to price match to Best Buy's Western Digital 120GB HD for $119.00.
CSR stated that it wasn't the same HD. I explained that their HD was simply a Western Digital rebadge, and that actually, their Western Digital was actually $20.00 more than the rebadge price.
They then asked about rebates. I stated I only wanted to price match the before rebate price.
They did the deal. My new price per HD is $102.00 each. That means that they paid me $18.00 each to take the drives
off of their hands. It doesn't get much better than that!

They may not send the entire $120 then... it says something to the effect of they won't pay the full MIR amount if you've pricematched the price to a certain point (ie make money of it).

Would that CC $19 after MIR WD 120gb happen to still be in effect? I am in need of two of those right now. Thx!

The fact that you pricematched this drive against a retail packaged WD drive is a miracle in and of itself (given CC's recent "emphasis" on pricematching). I wouldn't even call this "YMMV" - this is a "WPFOMB" deal (when pigs fly out my butt probability of occurring deal!)

With CC new rebate policy that checks PM ing, you'd better start praying now.

Some check, some dont. None of the three $40's have the "no PM" language. They really had no reason to say "no PM" on these, since the drives are in generic packaging which seems to be sold exclusively @ CC. They should not PM this to a retail WD blue box since the UPCs are diff and have diff warranties. Doesnt matter if the blue/better one is cheaper -- they are different, period.

Congrats to those who get the PM though

Yeah, I think this one belongs in the B&M thread. I doubt anyone here will be able to
get the deal you did. If that's the case....once again, I say this belongs in the B&M thread.

I almost couldn't believe it. I didn't bother to place an online order. I'm only 3 min from the store, so I went over.

Found the drive, grabbed one, 1 left. So I told the guy next to me about the 3 rebates, so he grabbed one too after hemmin and hawing over what to buy.

So I have a "bird in hand". Some guy from the stockroom comes over to me and says, "I'm sorry sir, that drive is sold, it was sold on our website and I came to get it off the floor. Can I have it, please?" I'm glad he said please, but I said "you're kidding!, this drive is in my hand and you want to take it from me?". A bit facetious, I said "possession is 9/10ths of the law, right?" "well sir, it is sold..." I said that it was sold, and to me. A bit of resistance and I suggested that we get him some education from the manager. 'Nuf said, manager took care of it, and told him to get a hold of the web people and inform the web customer of the "out of stock" problem.

Ironically, when I went to the register, having beaten the "realtime" system, it was cleared from inventory to a zero level from the web order. Couldn't process through the register if it wasn't showing. But I had it in hand. It took about an extra 10 min of computer overrides and "key flicks" but I got it fair and square.

Two rebates (YB270 and YB272)for $70 were spit out too. I'm working the other one (YB273) on the website.

...and again, "that was close"

So far I've received 3 of the 6 rebates for the two drives that Circuit City gave me, along with the $36.00 for taking them...
