Wow talk about getting burned. No way I would risk it to save a few bucks.

another fine example of them never learning any lessons. I have had nothing but the worst customer service from the many circuit city's I have visited.

Why would they care about customer service now? They are all out of jobs and the stores are closing so repeat business doesn't matter

On another note: All Circuit City's are required to have testing stations to allow customers to test out their products before leaving the store. As long as they haven't left the store yet they can still return the product

I was talking about the time before they went out of business. I don't expect them to care now.

You really don't have a clue, do you? First, Circuit City does not exist any longer except as a debtor in bankruptcy. The sales/liquidations of the stores is being handled by a liquidation company.....different ones in different stores, depending upon area/region/etc. And they are NOT required to do anything but sell you what you see.....an item in a box, or out of a box. They don't guarantee a damned thing nor claim anything works. And they don't have to provide testing stations.....most of the stores will NOT test anything for you at all.....and this is completely legal as the sales are, again, being done under a Federal bankruptcy order, not by a store, and bankruptcy sales are exempt from almost all consumer protection laws.

Second, sorry, you CANNOT return any product once you've purchased it, and it doesn't matter if the item's left the store or not......they'll just laugh in your face and then throw you out or have you removed if you try make a scene when you're told to "Read the sign that says ALL SALES FINAL---NO RETURNS!", and they tell you bought it, you get to keep it.

Then again, I guess you could just claim you have no comprehension of the written word....or are just stubborn or retarded, but none of those reasons will still enable you to return anything.....being sold AS IS. It's buyer beware.......

And good luck to those who bought stuff with the idea that the mfgr. will take care of any problems. If the mfgr. wants a receipt showing purchase date, guess what......that ALL SALES FINAL.....CC Liquidation Sale and whatever they're putting on the receipts will pretty much null and void any expected mfgr's warranty. Don't know of many, if any, manufacturers that will honor a liquidation purchased item.....they view it as akin to buying at an auction or used......warranties go out the window.

Huh...funny story: I WORK AT CIRCUIT CITY!. I would think that means I know something about whats going on there. Here, let me post an excerpt of an email I got that was sent out from Richmond VA to All Regions:

Item 4. Be sure to have a testing station for the customers set up

Sadly, i guess I can't prove it - but then maybe you know more about CC closing policies than I do?

Also I HAVE RETURNED PRODUCTS AFTER PEOPLE HAVE BOUGHT THEM - not seen other people do it - I actually have to do it myself. Very few people per store (ours has 3 people allowed to do it) have this ability and it only exists for people who have not left the store with their purchase. Once you leave the store I dont care what your story is I am not returning it.

Oh - and I currently have a new hard drive from western digital in the mail and a control pod for my Bose companion 5 speaker set I bought. Both were bought DEF for outrageously cheap ($10 total) and both are being covered under the manufacturer warranty. So thats at least 2 companies honoring their warranty

Do you always spout off about things you don't actually know anything about?

Well the part about the employees beings know it all pricks is proven.

Ebay is your friend

Never, never, never, never, trust Liquidators. They will knowingly sell you crap and give you the finger when you find out.

Yeah, I just looked at ebay. Circuity City gift cards are going for about 75 cents on a dollar there ( I looked at last 20 transactions completed and the result was 75 +/- 10 cents on a dollar). Will list tomorrow.

I dropped by 2 Circuit City stores near me today. One had several 50" Panny Viera plasmas in the $1200 range. I found the same one online for roughly $1700, so decent discount there. The other one had a 60" Mitsubishi DLP for like $1100 and a bunch of 58" Sammy plasmas for $2,099, which is the same as what I could find at some online retailers. I ended up buying a usb to mini cable and a PS3 remote with usb infra-red adapter. Total came to $17 so I was happy.

The problem at the 2nd Circuit City store that I went to was that half the tv's weren't plugged in, so you weren't even able to tell whether they worked or not. I wouldn't touch em.

Those customers getting burned in Boston and Minnesota, that's a shitty deal, but it's their own fault for not opening up the box before they bought the tv.

This is a true statement. All the people working at "Circuit City" now work for the liquidators. These people are only interested in recouping as much cash as possible out of the assets. They are the lowest of the low, and buying from them is like tossing a hundred at the craps table in vegas. That said, I'd still buy certain select items from them. Copyright and trademark laws prevent them from selling outright fakes.

As a side note, I did walk into my local "closing in 9 days" (thank someone!) CC a couple of days ago. I saw row after row of "Nexttech" brand garbage. I'd never seen this brand, and don't believe CC carried it, so I'm thinking the liquidators are trying to grab some extra cash selling no name brand crap at a CC premium price while the getting's good.

CC's dead. Nothing you buy there now has anything to do with CC other than it might have resided in a CC store/warehouse at some point in its lifespan, although that's not guaranteed.

Yes. Circuit City has carried Nextech stuff for a few years. Mostly cheap gadgets and blank CDs/DVDs, but a few other occasional items too.

No matter how cheap that media is that they stack all over the store, I would never buy it.

I have found plenty of good deals at a couple of Circuit Citys in my area. I bought the PS3 Rock Band 2 kit and game for $113 (and the original Rock Band game for $8) and got quite a few decent deals on TV shows and movies for 60 to 70% off.

There are deals out there, but I would never buy something like a tv or a computer unless I was absolutely sure it was a good deal and completely functional.
