Thought you all might want to pay attention to which stores may be closing and what kinds of deals might be had next Wednesday. Apparently most of the stores will be in Canada, but all of the stores that are closing will be clearing out existing stock:

Circuit City would not identify the stores to be closed because company officials were in the process of notifying employees. The stores will be closed Monday, then reopen Wednesday for clearance sales, spokesman Bill Cimino said.

We've got two within a mile of each other. One is brand new, one isn't, hmm.

COMPUSA just did something similar didn't it?

Not a good time for B&M electronics stores...I guess online merchants are taking quite a bit of their business...

Looks like most of the stores (62 to be exact) are located in Canada while 7 of them are "domestic Superstores."

What do they consider to be a "Superstore?"

Their return policy practices have always come under criticism and I never liked them. Generally boycotted the store. On the other hand I can't stand monopolies and since there aren't very many large chains like that in the US I am sorry to see the scu***gs go. Who said that?

CC sucks anyway. They lost a lot of my business cause the managers refused to price match local competitors cause no flyer was available. A simple phone call to the store would have cleared things up but they refused to do it.

They should close all stores, They like to rob people on there warranty , i get drawn in when they have good deals then get hammered when i go to get the warranty. then when trying to use the warranty forget it. Too bad most of the stores are in canada, or i would go for some good deals. but i am guessing that thell just send the inventory to other stores if they cant sell.

I started shopping at Circuit City 20+ years ago, they were great then with great customer service, easy returns, nice stores. About 10 years ago they really started going downhill with stuff never in stock, stores dingy and dirty, floor models scratched up and broken, etc.

I haven't been to one in 7 or 8 years (and there are like 20 of them in the DC area...)

I just hope the one near me is A-Okay. No other electronics retailer for 20 miles.

At least it's $5 off.....

Less than $10 at Monoprice. Little wonder why these BM's bite the dust.......

Probably because of guys like me. I've spent 3 grand at CC in December/January, so let me chime in about some of the deals I got.

Two weeks back, I bought the following XBOX 360 bundle:

XBOX 360 Premium Edition
Extra Wireless Controller
Play & Charge Kit
Gears Of War
$10 Gift Card

Paid $410. That's lower than anywhere online. Some people even managed to use the $40 off coupon to get it for $370.

The Dinovo Edge keyboard I wanted was listed for $170-$200 everywhere I looked; managed to snag one for $130 after coupon at Circuit City.

I grabbed several 50 packs of TDK 16x DVDRs for $9.

Acer 22" LCD Monitor for $240 after rebate.

Plus a ton of other deals I can't remember. Circuit City is a great store, but like any B&M, you have to do your research to get the best deals.

Not many in my state, I'd be really surprised in any of them had to close.

Circuit city was commission sales until about 4-5 years ago. I used to work there during the late 90's when I was still in high school and the salesmen were very knowledgable and you could always cut a deal with the manager to lower the price. Now their is no negotiating and the people working the floor are just high school kids who don't know much about their product. I still prefer circuit city over best buy. The best buy near me is always a mess.

Wasn't Circuit City.com one of the only sites to sell Wiimotes, Nunchuks, and Classic Controllers on the web once they were available? (frequently)

Wow, I'd love to have your Circuit City...the ones near me sometimes won't even honor their own advertised sale prices, let alone stuff like their $40 coupon.

When I got my Wii, CC.com said one store near me had Classic Controllers in stock and available for in-store pickup. I placed an order, paid, and got my confirmation. Was on the way to the store (45 minute drive), got almost there and got a phone call from them saying that they actually didn't have any after all, that the last one they had was being sold to someone else. I asked how they could sell it to someone when I had already ordered and paid, they basically told me to p1ss off about it. I tried to call them on their "ready in 24 minute" thing but, guess what...didn't apply in this situation. Convenient, eh?

The only thing I liked about CC was that you could place an order and then go to the store and pick it up.

While at a quality store like BB, you could place an order, go to the store to pick it up, find the items you ordered on the shelf and buy them again cause your order still hasn't been processed and then cancel when you get the order confirmation email the next day.

I liked CC. And yeah, BB store pick up is horrid. it takes them 1 day just to get back to you an dthen it takes you 40 minutes just to get out of the store.
