 $62/meter

At least it's $5 off.....

Less than $10 at Monoprice. Little wonder why these BM's bite the dust.......

You do realize that you are comparing two different brand products? Monster cables in general are a rip off, and it doesnt matter where you buy them from.

I actually prefer CC to BB. A return at CC takes 5 min, at BB 45 min. I also dont recall CC ever calling the police on customers who bring in their fliers with misprints.

I dont think CC is losing to BB because or prices or services, just to most people its a newer store and therefore better. Like Kmart vs Walmart, or Mervyns/JC Pennys vs Old Navy vs Kohls.

Not surprising news. I was just in CC last friday to pickup an iPod, iPod stereo and look for a Wii. Couldn't even get any employees to make eye contact, the manager even walked by with his head buried in a clipboard. So we went to Wally World. Not a lot of money for them, but they lost ~$500 in sales that day from me.

Actually, they probably only lost about $15-20 in profit, none of those are high margin items.

John

The number of large chains has nothing to do with whether there is a monopoly or not. The fact you can buy most of the electronics they sell at mom and pop shops, online only stores, department stores and even some grocery stores means there is no monopoly on the retail sale of electronics.

Well I for one prefer CC to BB, mostly because of the service I get in the store. I have never had an issue at CC, but BB on the other hand... So to each his own, but this is a very common practice in the retail market. Kroger is doing the same thing currently in closing underperforming stores. Just wait till the news from the GAP comes down.

I like our local CC over BB although both are 90 miles away the BB has a much better location in a shopping strip with Office Depot, PetSmart, Grannies Buffet and Outback Steak house. The CC is located off a limited access hiway with no left turn. It pretty much is a "you can't get there from here location".

I'm not happy about this. The more of these stores the better for us as the deals are spread around. I brought this Toshiba laptop I'm typing on right now at CC for a heck of a good deal after rebate and price matching (and yes, I got the rebate). I'm not a huge fan of any of these stores but I want them all to stay around so we can keep hitting them up for deals!

B&M Electronic stores suck. Their best deals don't even come close to online retailers regular prices. Until they get that through their head, they are going to lose more and more business. The only way they will be able to survive is either PM online prices or change their business model to meet the needs of B&M customers.

I just talked a guy out of buying the same TV I purchased. We were at BB. I was looking for inexpensive cables (yeah right). They sales guy was trying to get him to purchase the Samsung LNS3251D. It was around $1300. I told him he can have it delivered in 3 days for $1000. That is almost a $400 price difference once you add tax. With that price difference, you can get a 5 year warranty and monster cables (stupid to buy them) for less than the cost of the tv.

Why would anyone not take advantage of the reputable online retailers?

The article said 69 US stores and the Kentucky distribution center.

No, it doesn't. It says, "Circuit City Stores Inc., the nation?s No. 2 consumer electronics retailer, said Thursday it plans to close seven domestic Superstores, a Kentucky distribution center and 62 company-owned stores in Canada to cut costs and improve its financial performance."

I also have to give credit to CC. I used to hate them locally, they didn't treat customers well and often would not honor their on sale pricing. I always shopped at BB. Now it seems roles are reversing. My local BB takes forever to complete an unopened return, is also slow with a price match (and sometime will refuse to do it). I even have had them refuse to honor their own valid coupons. I had a $20 off $200 coupon with no exclusion from a local coupon book, they would not honor it on a WII.

Dear John,

I see reading comprehension is not your strong suit, so I shall quote, highlight and italicize the FIRST PARAGRAPH from the linked article you so kindly posted for you:

RICHMOND, Va. - Circuit City Stores Inc., the nation?s No. 2 consumer electronics retailer, said Thursday it plans to close seven domestic Superstores, a Kentucky distribution center and 62 company-owned stores in Canada to cut costs and improve its financial performance.

According to the above quoted paragraph, and again reminding you it was the FIRST PARAGRAPH in the article, that comes out to 7 domestic stores and 62 Canadian stores......total of 69 stores.

So where exactly did you read the stores were all located in the U.S.?

Didn't think so.

DUH!!!

By the way, just for your information, the distribution center in KY handled store fixtures and signage, no product.

You are right. Even the title of the thread fooled me.

the Kennewick manager would not honor the forty buck off coupon, so I bought the 20 inch Sceptre from NewEgg for 180 delivered after rebate. Zero pixels dead. So actually he probably did both of us a favor, as I bought a better monitor cheaper from Newegg and he did not make a sale where he would have made little to no money.

Best Buy is complete ******. Rude, arrogant employees that know little to nothing about the things they sell. Overpriced. ****** Products... I simply won't shop there... ugh my sister got me a $20 GC there... I don't even want to go!!!!!

CC is pretty much the same, but too a lesser degree.

Both suck IMO, but I get better prices and service @ CC. The car audio people were helpful with my purchase/installation. BTW I live in northern VA.

While at a quality store like BB, you could place an order, go to the store to pick it up, find the items you ordered on the shelf and buy them again cause your order still hasn't been processed and then cancel when you get the order confirmation email the next day.

Agreed.

Well, over the past couple of years, when I have shopped at a B&M electronics store, most of my good (great) deals have been at Circuit City. ($35 for a EVGA 6800 last February probably was the highlight.) As for service as compared to Best Buy...CC's been getting better, BB's been getting worse. They passed each other going different directions a couple of years ago.
