I worked at Circuit ****** for 3 1/2 years (thank god I quit). I had a bunch of friends that used to work there, but most of them lost their job today. This just shows what kind of company Circuit City is. Its easy to say from an outsiders point of view that the company needed to cut costs etc... but you need to realize some of these people busted their ass for Circuit ****** for many years, and got nothing in return but "sorry, you're fired".

Not to mention, look at what they pay the CEO and other Exec's their.

Its horrible, sometimes I really hate big buisness. Always out to make a profit and not give a damn about their employees OR their customers.

CHARITY? Those employees made Circuit City a HELL of a lot more money by selling their crazy ass warranties and badgering customers to let CC install their antivirus software for 30 bucks.

You are confusing charity with 'treating employees well'

This is the 3rd time I've seen a post about circuit city firing all of those employees. 1 in P&N, 1 in Hot Deals, and now here.

It's funny, how CC says they needed to "cut costs" by doing this. I hope they realize that the decline in sales over the past 3 years is due to them cutting out commish.

If you have employees who don't have a reason to sell (commish) then they won't sell. Getting rid of the good employees now will just undermine your customer base even further.

Go Best Buy!

It doesnt matter. The shareholders want to see profit and it isn't happening how it was structured. When you come to realize it doesn't matter about who gets fired and who keeps their jobs, and its all about what the shareholders want, you start to become numb to the whole thing.

They will have to learn to work as hard or harder with less people, or they will fade into the past like many other businesses...

They were when they were working.

If Bestbuy offer your friends 20% more salary, guess what your friends would do? Fire Circuit City.

WTF do you expect really? A pension plan?

It's their prerogative to do so. Will this make me want to shop their anymore or less than I do now, probably not. Do I care if they go under, no. Do I like best buy any better, no. Merchandise-wise, If I can't buy it at lowes or home depot, then I buy it online. If I find a hot deal in a store that can't be matched online, then I'll buy it in the store, but they won't be making much money on it if thats the case.

You can complain all you want about it, justifiably, but the fact is that they along with compusa are struggling to stay alive. Its not to the CEO's interest to be that blunt about it, and preferably they probably would not have liked to lose this contingency of employees, but it is what it is - a measure to stay alive.

(Personally I think think they are already dead in the water, and its more of a measure to maintain some value in the stock so the execs can dump all their shares without being too conspicuous, but in either case, sooner or later, the other 90% of the employees will get their pinkslips as well.)

Yes there are. Four weeks worth. Pretty harsh thought. Hopefully they were smart had some savings to fall onto.

I wonder if this is going to be similar to what happened with Home Depot.

The company gave the dismissed workers severance pay
Sound like they know how to take care of their employees to me

If your friends worked at Circuit City for more than 3 and half years, then they don't have much of a career to begin with.

Why should they give a damn about their customers? The customers don't give a damn about Circuit City. It's the customers who will use the Circuit City store and staff to research the products, then purchase the product from a website for a $5 savings. It's the customers who go out of their way to abuse Circuit City's price-matching policy. Going even further, it's the customers who when they have a defective product purchased from the internet, will purchase the same product from Circuit City, switch items, and make Circuit City give them the refund. It happens.

Bottom line is good service and caring for customers costs money - money that customers will not pay in this new millennium.

It could work, at least it did for Henry Ford.

Why would they? Internet stores can sell stuff cheap because they cram all of their merchandise into a warehouse and ship it out to an entire country or continent. Basically you could have the same sales as a national chain but with way less workers.
