The Apple Store is MSRP only; there is no good reason to buy ANYTHING there.

Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc., will sell you the same Apple products and usually toss in something extra (like a gift card) to entice customers.

they were the only store that had the 60GB ps3 at $500 in the summer in stock with a free sixaxis controller plus the 5 free blu ray movies deal (still going on though). props to them for that though...

When CC is gone I'm pretty much done going into B&M electronic stores. I've had good experiences with them and nothing but headaches from BB in this area. Extended warranty repairs on my tv were performed by CC's own tech who was very good and gave me his nextel # if I had any problems. Even the manager gave me his cell phone # if I had any problems. I have read too many stories about peoples TV's being wrecked by whoever BB gets to do repairs.

CC announced today that same-store sales dropped 11.4% in December. Wow, that's really bad. (same-store sales figures include only stores opened at least a year, and compares the stores' sales figures to the same period of the previous year. It's a good indicator because it doesn't count additional sales which are gained by simply opening more stores.)

Firedog +15%, extended warranty revenue -29%, Internet & call center sales +17%.

I loved this from the AP story:

"(Chief Executive Philip) Schoonover said the company will pay attention to giving sales associates the "necessary knowledge and tools needed to improve both sales and margin. The company had laid off 3,400 high-paid workers and replaced them with lower-paid new hires in March."

then later in the story...
"Circuit City announced last month that it approved millions in cash incentives to retain its top talent following the departure of several key executives over the past year. Executive vice presidents could claim retention awards of $1 million each and senior vice presidents could get $600,000, provided they stay with the company until 2011."

frys electronics is not that good also. sure, they have a ton of crap there, but most stores hire idiots. you have to know exactly what you want going in, because you wont get much help figuring it out there. i still go to frys before BB or CC, havent been in a CC for a decade or so. never liked them, probably wont care if they go out of business. ill go hit their closing sale mebbe, but thats about it.

That right there is why the chain will fail. What idiot thought that canning the best employees and giving upper management a raise would increase sales?

Who cares about price when you too can shop at hip-central with their post-modern, sterile displays.
