I just called cc and they told me that they have not reached the decision as of yet about the $60.00 rebate. They took my information and will call me back. The CS agent gave me her name and extension and reference number.

Manager was a Jerk. Yesterday, when i went to pickup my HD he said i don't know anything about the rebate and you should deal with the people who handle internet sale and purchase. I made him call the corporate offie and he also told me no work from coporate office yet.

I am returning it if i don't get $60.00 rebate.

Ordered mine yesterday at about 10a MST for pickup. Drove to the B&M after work and they only printed 2 rebates. (BTW, the CSR looked just like Katie Holmes..whoa).

Showed them the webpage printout (before the change) and the email with the 3 rebates listed. They gave me the line about sending in a copy of the UPC. No No I said. It states they want an ORIGINAL. Phone call here and there. Asked them for a price adjustment but they wouldn't. Going to speak with the store mgr this morning.

Hey, even $20 off the price for the hassle would be good.

Called 800-The-City this morning and spoke to Evett (x3506)- "At this time Circuit City is offering an apology." So I said, wow, an apology costs CC nothing but this is costing me $60. "We have fixed the website", she went on to say.

Anyway, give Evett a call to redeem your free Circuit City apology (A.R.V. is $0.00)

Well, I already have mine installed and humming away, so no returning for me. But I am really ticked off. I took off on my lunch hour yesterday, scored this, came back to find out that the $60 rebate has fallen through. I'd been considering going with a Maxtor, but this deal just landed in my lap so I went with it. I do have e-mail plainly listing the three rebates, plus screen prints of all the info. Not sure what good it will do me. :|

I know it's petty, but this really leaves a bad taste in my mouth for both Western Digital and Circuit City.
I hate Best Buy, so I guess that means I'll be buying all my DVDs at Wal-Mart and Target from now on.

As far as I know:

if your model number ends in BB, it's a 2meg version.
if your model number ends in JB, it's an 8 meg version.

For the people who dealt with asshat managers at CC, I feel for you. I had a run in with CC about 4 years ago trying to return a defective CompactFlash reader and that experience taught me never to ask for Mgmt at the CC here. They will treat you like crap and point to the 1-800 # on the wall if you start to make sense. :|

and yes, you sould be sorry because you are killing the deal by calling (mchurchm)

I have been a www.dvdtalk.com (Hot Deals forum) since 1999. I just recently discovered this site and love it! I joined to get deals and post deals when I see them.

There is certainly a lot more 'attacks' in this forum, such as yours above. Calling a rebate center has absolutely NOTHING to do with this deal being killed or a basis for honoring/not honoring a rebate. Are you serious???

As for the rebate situation. CC can simply say they offered a choice of rebates. They are not obligated to honor both. So the question is, is the drive worth $76 after tax and an 8 week rebate hassle. Not to me. I will call CC and ask them to deduct $60 from the price. It can't hurt.

Having said that. It is great to be here. And I hope to be a long time contributing member.

There have been deals in the past...a few...not many...which ended after a phone call so it's become something of a superstition here not to call or you "jinx" the deal. This deal is a ymmv anyway except in my case I will get the deal, even if it comes to a cc dispute.
Welcome, and feel free to rag the raggers anytime.

Anyone can take their WD HDD back to CC to get a full refund up to 30 days after buying it for "any reason". My reason after installing it and playing with it would be that I am not going to get the extra $60 rebate. This would at least make things more "uncomfortable" for CC if they have to deal with many opened/used hard drives that would be rather unsellable.

My printer wasn't working when I originally saw this deal. If someone could send me a pdf or screenshot of the original $60 rebate with the original date, I'd appreciate it.

Edit: sorry, I presumed those links were outdated. Thanks for the info.

I went to the CC where I picked mine up and talked (calmly, nicely) to the associate
and explained what was going on. I showed him my print out confirmation and
the original rebate forms. He spoke briefly to the sales manager and gave me a $60+tax
refund. This means I won't be able to PM the OM sale later, but it also means I
already have the credit, so my out of pocket is just over $108 and I will get $90 back.
Still seems like a hot deal to me. Obviously YMMV, but it sounds like CC managers are
still using individual discretion and no corporate memo has gone out about it.

Me: "Hi, you may have already received calls on this. A western Digital hard drive with 3 rebates?
She: "OK"
Me: "I'll refresh you just in case,I purchased a Western Digital hard drive on the web site for in store pick-up with 3 rebates. When I picked it up only 2 rebates printed out. I have since learned the 3rd rebate will not be honored."
She: "OK"
Me: "I was hoping to get a price adjustment.."
She: "Can you hold on , please?"
Me: "Sure"
Several minutes later...
She: Can I get your ticket#? This is just the sales line and I'll have to transfer you to?? but I'll need your ticket#"
Me: "Sure, it's xxxxxxxxx"
She: "Hold , please"
Several minutes later...
Mia: "...We are still trying to come up with a solution for this matter. We realize it was our fault. We expect to have a solution sometime later today..Your ref# is and my ext is 2511...."
So there's still hope for a painless solution.

I took mine back. They insisted it would be honored and I said I don't want to wait 2 months to find out. They then offered to give me my money back.

I kept all my papers just in case they come up with something. It sucks. All this hassle for nothing.

No, I picked mine up yesterday and no rebate got printed. I went to another cc today and the customer service agent printed out the rebate for me.

Trust me i have a good feeling that it will be honored because lot of people got $60.00 + tax back. They have to honor it.

If I was a circuit city manager and this screw up occurred I would wiggle my way out of it to pointing to several fine points. Then after that I would call someone in the corporate offices and bitch them out.

Why? It's not you that's losing money. Your job is customer satisfaction, not screwing them over. Thank goodness you're NOT a manager because you'd last less than a week.

Just got back from CC here in MN. I am now $60 richer. Sweet. I just used the printouts and reasoned my way to a refund.

Look,

I think the bottom line is this - They will honor this one way or another - either through the rebate center or through the store. If you can prove that a store gave a $60 credit for this and they arent doing it at your store put up a fight, call headquarters, they are in many locations, but they are all governed by one headquarters...you will get $60 it just may take some push if the rebate center denies it.

As for the rebate situation. CC can simply say they offered a choice of rebates. They are not obligated to honor both.
If they advertise a product with a rebate(s) then they are obligated to honor the rebates or refund your money and return the product. They sold you the product and you purchased it with the knowledge that there were three rebates for the product. If they try and pull this crap, then they should be dealt with. Office Max got in trouble a while back in Michigan for rebate issues.

Picked up the drive yesterday (on-line order, store pickup), saw the posts afterwards.

Today, Printed out the original website w/ 3 rebates shown, printed out e-mail confirmation with
links to the 3 rebates. Printed out the old $60 MIR. Went to CC, showed them everything, explained that the $60 is now no longer valid according to Corporate & WD.

Got $60 + tax credited. Took about 5-8 min max at the store.

Don't bother calling CC, just printout what you need, go to the store, and calmly explain to them.
IF no go, try another CC. If they had refused, me I would have insisted, and point out that I shop at CC often, spending like > $1K in the last 18 months (which is true) , so are they going to argue with me over $60?

Err, look who's talking. Every corporate retail manager I've worked with focuses on making the customer leave happy, NOT pissed off from getting screwed over, even if it means losing a few bucks. If you were even remotely clued in to the basic fundamentals of customer relations, you'd know that bad publicity travels many, many times farther than good publicity. Try getting back to me after you graduate high school.

I do think that was rather harsh. But true.
