I called my CC where I picked up the drive and they promptly did a "price adjustment" - sounds like word is getting out to all the stores. gave them my order # and they credited it right there over the phone.

While my CC says they won't issue the credit over the phone because it was an internet order (I don't see what difference that makes), they said to stop by tomorrow & they'll credit me my $60.
Not a big deal since I will be driving by there anyway.
Sweeeeeeeeeeet.

UPDATED POST:

Sitting Pretty with my NEW 120 GB WD, for only $16.58. I paid exactly $106.58 in Circuit City. I have the rebates; they are the $80 WD rebate and $10 rebate from Circuit City. Circuit City paid the $60 "bogus rebate" (because they messed up!)

However this is not without some problems, let me be frank, and explain! (grinning)

1st trip to local Circuit City with the proper paperwork in hand. I asked a sales person about the drive and there was only one left on the shelf! I then showed him the paperwork and it was all up-hill for me from then on. I talked to an assistant manager girl and I then blew through her, and spoke to the Sales Manager. The Sales manager was also not nice! He would not budge an inch, even though I was in the RIGHT! So I requested his manager to speak with. His manager (the store manager) was in a meeting and I had to come back at 4:00pm to speak with him.

I left the store mad, but somewhat calm mannered. I went home called another local 2nd Circuit City and spoke with the Store Manager there, he was really cool and understood my situation. I told him what was the situation at the other store, he understood. He gave me Corporate Headquarters information and other manager's names as well.

I then called the Western Digital rebate line 1-800-292-0667, and they basically told me that Circuit City messed up on their website. Only one rebate is good at a time. Circuit City will have to somehow cover the damage or the $60, or the $80 rebate (either one!)

3rd store: I called and talked to the manager and he said he would cover the price of the $60 rebate, on the spot! I went to the store and they did just that. The manager covered the bogus price on their website and I paid there: $ 106.58.

But the clincher is this: I held the hard drive at the 1st store and at the 3rd store (where I paid $106.58) they printed me out a ticket and I had to pick up the hard drive from the 1st store. I went to the 1st store with my receipt and requested the original Sales Manager and handed him the receipt (grinning). I said:"I would like to pick up my Hard Drive".

TIPS
1. Have paperwork, "rebates, website image" ready when you are in the store.
2. Talk to the Store Manager, or the District Manager! The regular employees will not be of help!
3. The local manager will have to eat the extra $$ in my case the $60. The manager merely swiped his corporate card and deducted the price from the sale. I paid $106.58 total.
4. Circuit Cities are networked in areas. If you go into a store, that does not have the Hard-drive, another store may have it, and you can pay there, and go to the other store and pick it up. (like I did)
5. If Circuit City does not have the Hard-Drive in stock, they will order you one. You will Pre-Pay for the Hard-Drive. They will print you a receipt and the rebates, and you can pick up the Drive later.
6. Western Digital rebate center is helpful, and they know the situation, just call and ask about it.
7. Remain calm, and collected, and be prepared. Some of the managers will not budge, they think they are right!
8. As of this posting, the deal should be valid! Even tomorrow!
9. Talk to the District Manager if needed! I did this and I also gave positive feedback towards some of the employees, NOT ALL!
10. And when you hear the words "Sir, this is not worth loosing a sale!" You know you have WON!

(I?m grinning now)

Thanks for the hot deal guys! I got a 60IR today during lunch at the Culver City, CA store.

I had some questions regarding the drive:
1) I was lucky enough to get a drive with the 8mb cache
2) I was reading a review on the newer WD2000JB drive over on Tom's Hardware and noticed something interesting on the first page...

The new model has higher performance capabilities, so if the prices are the same, then go for the newer model. The model number of the new drive doesn't allow you to identify which is which, so we recommend that you take a look at the total number of sectors (indicated on the drive as "Drive Parameters"): the "old" model has 234.375 billion; the latest model has 234.442 billion. An alternative is to look at the manufacturing date - models dated starting September 2002 are most likely the ones that have 60 GB per platter.

I looked at the label on my drive and saw that it was manufactured 08 Jan 2003 and the "Drive Parameters" had a sector size of 234441648 which rounded is 234.442 billion. Does this mean that I have a drive with 8mb cache and 60gb platters?? I'm not sure what the advantage of 2-60gb platters is over 3-40gb platters but this is interesting nevertheless.

Here's a link to the article: Tom's WD2000JB Review

I don't get how you people don't know if you have an 8MB drive. The capacity label should say 2 or 8 MB... the box is also different for 8MB. Are you people saying there are 8MB in 2MB packaging?

Yes, the label says 2MB cache but when you open the box it has a pink slip that says you have an "upgraded" drive with 8MB cache. The model number is WD1200JB instead of WD1200BB. It seems that most people getting the 8MB cache drives labeled 2MB have a serial number beginning with WMACM.

Okay, here is as close to an official answer I have seen. I wrote to the customer service on the Circuit City website, asking how to get my money. This is the reply I received (highlighting added by me):
Thank you for contacting circuitcity.com. I apologize for any inconvenience you have had with our site. At this time, the $60 rebate link that was posted online at www.circuitcity.com for the WDC WD1200BBRTL was printed in error. Due to our error, Circuit City will be honoring these rebates for customers who made the purchase on April 24th. Please fill out the $10 rebate and the $80 rebate as indicated. Please make copies of all UPC codes and receipts.

On Monday, April 28th, you will need to call Customer Support at (800) 251-2665 for specific instructions on how to receive the $60 rebate. I apologize for any inconvenience and confusion.

I hope this information is helpful. Your continued patronage is important to our company, and we hope to have the occasion to serve your future consumer electronics, home office, and
entertainment needs. Thank you for making Circuit City your choice.

This is FANTASTIC news for me as my store managers are being real jerks, and not offering the $60 IR. It appears that I will get satisfaction afterall.

CSR in Boulder Colorado had no problem with refunding the $60.
The best part is since they refund you the tax, the refund to your credit card is about $65!
Sweet deal (although this probably kills the pricematch with OM)

Hey you guys,

Good job sticking to what is right and not let the corporation run all over you. However, it does seem like you had to put up a lot of crap for $60. I just received a $20 off $100 coupon in my e-mail box. I'll use this and purchase the drive tomorrow.

What you people go throught just to save some $$$ on HD, too much hassle, too much risks. Their not losing a penny, this is to promote sale and it is infact limited to only a few individual and then the word of mouth is out to help them bring in more customer then ever which is why it is only limited for a few day.

No problems in San Diego. Went to two different stores but bought both drives in National City. No problems once presenting the receipts. The guy that helped me out already knew what I was doing when I mentioned rebate. He was really bummed that he couldn't get one for himself because they were only honoring this price for drives that were purchased yesterday. I asked if he wanted me to buy him one but he said he couldn't get the price down for that.

Went to the store in Oregon and the guy asked me how many rebates and I said 3 so he immediately gave me $60 credit without me having to ask for it. Will send the other two rebates in.

Don't worry about which store has the Hard-Drive. Circuit City can order the drive for you. You have to Pre-Pay for the drive and you can pick it up later. They will also print you a reciept and the rebates. Or they can check out which store has the drive. Call them and ask them. The stores are networked.
