First everyone was getting upset that CC was denying the 60 rebate. Now that it seems quite a number of people have gotten that as an instant rebate there are those who got in on this deal who want to steal money? (It is fraud, and you are taking advantage of CC and WD)
I'm sure all those who do plan on trying to get the extra 60 will defend themselves. But frankly if you do it and get the 60 rebate, you just make companies less willing to help the customer in the future. You're only shooting yourself in the foot, and dragging down others with you for this.

I agree

ya bunch of greedy bastards. A 120GB drive for $15 and change isn't enough, now people are trying to get paid for getting the drive.

So basically they told you to send them in as specified on the rebate forms? Did they say to put a copy of the UPC in with the $60 form?

/frank

Yes-

Whatver you send to one, send copies of everything to the other....I got my $60 back in the store just a little while ago. They apologized and corrected it for me, so all Ihave left is the $80 and $10 one to send in....not bad

Also purchased a 120G drive from OM on 4/25

$179.99 OfficeMax drive
+$159.99 Circuit City Drive
- $ 11.50 PM from CC to OM when it reduced price to $149.99 on 4/27
- $ 34.50 PM from OM when they reduced their own price on 4/27
- $ 80.00 OM MIR
- $ 80.00 CC MIR
- $ 10.00 CC MIR
- $ 60.00 CC MIR hoping they take both since I purchased on 4/24
- $ 60.00 CC instant price adjustment
- $ 25.00 OM instant coupon

Should come out ahead by $25...worse case I end up with 2x120GB for about $30?????

You say "don't shoot me" because you know under most circumstances we shouldn't call as it may ruin the deal. In this case I think it was OK to call, as so many others already have that it makes no difference.

However as I posted earlier in this thread, if you now submit your $60 CC MIR after already receiving your instant price adjustment, not only do I think you are guilty of fraud, I think CC and Western Digital have ways of determining this from your original invoice.

At the very least, they will probably void all three rebates associated with that invoice!

At the other end of the scale, they may put you on a list of people who are no longer eligible for rebates because they are caught cheating on their submissions, in the process voiding each and every rebate you may have pending or submit in the future.

Actually, there is even something worse:

You might go to jail.:clock:
Do not pass go. Do not collect ANY rebates.

It would be hilarious to me if all those who submitted the 60 even after getting the credit had all their rebates (the 60, 80, and 10) denied by WD and CC.

RIGHT!@!!@@ I'll go to jail for submitting a $60 rebate that they posted on the internet??? Um, excuse me but I received a "PRICE ADJUSTMENT"

My receipt doesn't say, "We, Circuit City, agree to pay holder thereof $60.00 in lieu of any past, present or future submission of rebate #WDC in respect to the person receiving credit to said purchase." IANAL

So they gave me a $60 price adjustment. Maybe the CSR liked the way I parted my hair. Maybe they felt bad that I work at a crappy company. All I know is I purchased the drive on the 24th and got it for $106 and am eligible for 3 rebated...$10, $60 and $80.

You got the "PRICE ADJUSTMENT" only because you complained you were NOT getting the 60 rebate.

One can only hope they deny all your rebates.

Maybe, maybe not. I also purchased the drive on the 24th, and my price was $105.98. The csr must have liked the way I flirted with her. Or maybe she felt bad that I had to make a second trip to her store due to an internet mistake. They gave me a "$63.60 price adjustment" too! I'm just not as greedy as you seem to be.

Btw, you may or may not find this applicable, but I do:

"Offer void where prohibited or restricted by law. Fraudulent submission of multiple requests may result in prosecution under applicable law. Circuit City and it's associated companies reserve the right to audit any claims, request additional information regarding this claim and to nullify any claims which cannot be substantiated."

Notice that part about auditing claims and requesting additional information? Imho, CC and WD will audit EVERY claim on this drive, and will nullify any rebates where a $60 price adjustment was given on the receipt and the $60 rebate was filed also.

Well said.. I admit, I was greedy. Okay guys/gals I'll only submit the $10 and $80. Of course the 120GB drive I got from OM will be subject to my PM and coupon and $80 MIR. So 2x120G 8mb, 7200rpm drives for about $60 going up on ebay in a few days. check it out.

Well I just contacted circuit city rebates, and was told to send both rebates in the same envelope to the rebate center at Young America. All the guy said was you need to write on the $80 rebate that "This drive was bought on the 24th and is therefore eligible for the $60 rebate". Of course you need to include your proof of purchase from the 24th and the UPC.

Seems almost too easy!

Ok.. it's time for me to chime in on this entire thread:

1) As luck would have it, I originally purchased this drive on 4/23 to secure the merchandise, not because of the 4/24 sale, but to PM against OMAX's upcoming 4/27 sale (which is theoretically going on right now, excpet for the fact that OM ran out of stock in less than 5 minutes).

2) When I saw the 4/24 post at FW, first I practically soiled myself. Next I casually went back to my CC B&M on 4/24 (late in the afternoon), conducted a REFUND followed by a REPURCHASE. Thus I was issued a new receipt with a purchase date of 4/24, but only 2 rebates printed out: $10 & $80. When I asked about the 3rd rebate, I was told they could print me one off their web-site. I told them I could do so just as easily at home.

3) Later that evening after reading about how some people were getting $60IR's from their local CC's, I called mine up to see if they would do so as well. They took a very hardline stance and said it was a web mistake but that there's a disclaimer on their web-site covering such mistakes. (BULLSH*T!)

4) I called again the next day (4/25) and they still wouldn't budge. They told me to call the CC COOL line (which I did). The CC COOL line took my name & phone # and opened up some case #. They said they'd let me know something on Monday (i.e. TODAY).

5) I never heard squat from the CC COOL line today, so finally I took all the evidence I collected on 4/24 & 4/25 (most of which is hosted at Online Sharing), drove over to my local CC B&M, walked up to the customer service desk, and told the CSR something to the effect of:

Last week I purchased a WD 120 gig HDD which had 3 rebates with it. Before I bought the drive, the rebate was on-line. When I got home the rebate disappeared. Other people whom encountered this same situation simply had their local CC's issue them a $60 refund on the drive. I'd like to receive the $60 refund as well.

I then presented the 2 receipts I'd collected (one's at Online Sharing, the other was posted in this thread many many pages ago) along w/ my purchase receipt. The CSR took my evidence, walked to the back, and came out a few minutes later saying that the manager apologizes for the situation but that the rebate will now be honored. I told the CSR that based on the latest instructions, I can no longer qualify for the $60 rebate. She walked back again, came back out and said The manager is willing to give me a $30 credit in light of the situation. I told her that that's ABSURD and then asked her if I could speak directly with the manager. She walked away again, came back out (quickly this time), and simply issued the $60 refund.

Bottom line? My CC, which was taking a VERY HARD LINE STANCE THE ENTIRE TIME, finally did the right thing; however, the way in which they conducted themselves makes me not want to continue supporting them. I had to try 3 times to get that d*mn $60IR.

With all of the above said, I've e-mailed a scan of my receipt to the OnLine sharing site and hopefully it will be posted TODAY. My receipt shows an ORIGINAL PURCHASE DATE of 4/24 and a PRICE ADJUSTMENT DATE of 4/28. I've also left part of the TRANSACTION TIME on the 4/28 receipt (showing that the transaction occurred no earlier than 4PM on 4/28). If you really want the $60 IR, I recommend trying the process I went through (of presenting the evidence to your CC B&M). Presenting MULITPLE RECEIPTS as proof makes your case that much stronger. Good luck if you try it!

Diggler

P.S. Reminder: My receipt will hopefully be hosted at OnLine Sharing soon.

You might as well forget about preaching to thieves. They figure it is their "right" to cheat companies out of money. I didn?t go for this deal because I knew it was wrong to do so. Just like the two $25 rebate checks I just shredded because they were duplicates. If a rebate company cheats me out of a rebate, shame on them. If I cheat them out of a rebate, shame on me. That?s something I don?t want on my conscience. But you?ll find an awful lot of people here don?t have a conscience, and will come back with a reply trying to justify what they did as being somehow right. I would never raise my children to steal, I wonder if they will. BTW, these will be the first people to complain when the good deals dry up, never understanding the difference between a good deal and theft. Flame all you want, I won?t be revisiting this thread.

Diggler, I am going to have to call you out on this. First of all it is clearly posted on their website about errors.

Here is the info. It is at this link

http://www.circuitcity.com/frame1.j...t.jsp&right=cs_contentdisplay.jsp&incat=11015

Errors on Our Web site
We make every effort to ensure that the information on circuitcity.com is accurate, complete and current. Despite our efforts, there may be instances when information about a Product contains inaccurate or incomplete data, including data about the Product's price or availability. Circuit City makes no warranty or guarantee that the information on circuitcity.com is error-free, complete, or current. We reserve the right to correct errors and/or update the content on circuitcity.com at any time without notice. Circuit City also reserves the right to refuse or cancel any order containing any error or inaccuracy, including after the order has been submitted, whether or not the order has been confirmed and your credit card charged. If your order is canceled after your payment has been processed, we will issue a full refund to the original pay type.

You should know that if there is an error on a website, you have a very slim chance to get your deal. If the deal seems wrong, it probably is. I would venture to say that if you went to best buy, they would have just returned this without even asking questions. Circuit City seems to go the extra mile, ie no restocking fees. Just my opinion though, they did us a favor by honoring it, when they didnt have to.

Store managers are themselves deducting the $60 "mixup" off the overall price. If you did purchase the drive on 4/24 then there is no problem, the rebate will be honored "I have not seen this in writing yet!".

this is not fraud because Circuit City posted the 3 rebates on their website, it was their mistake to do so, this is why they "fixed" the mistake right afterwards. The Store Managers should deduct the $60 from the price because of the mix up, they know this, remember "it is not worth it, for them, to loose a sale", Circuit City managers will tell this to you.

WD is completely out of the picture, call them and they will tell you the situation. They will tell you it was Circuit City's fault for posting the 2 WD rebates on their site, at the same time. Remember only one WD rebate can be used at a time, read the clause in the rebate contract.

===================
I was called by a lady this afternoon from 1-800-251-2665, ext. 548449 (Adam) told me to mail in both $60 and $80 to either address they required (I guess they are WD rebate address). So, if what you just said above is true.....should it be any problem? Or it's already settled between CC and WD rebate? Anyone got any information from WD rebate center?

Thanks, at least I'm glade they are willing to pay for the mistake they made. Just too much hassle in the process, sales managers in our CC are not budging....

Fair enough, based on the quote above I'll grant you that one. That said, once some CC's started issuing IR's to customers, IMO it's only fair that they should act uniformly for all other customers who request it. Thankfully I got my $60IR, and I think everybody else who purchased their HDD on 4/24 should pursue the IR avenue as well.

The thread is FLOODED with people who should be kicked square in the noots for posting useless information and for asking questions about committing mail fraud.

Good for you if you got the $60 back from the store

but:

1. What were you told the procedure is for mailing rebate forms?
2. Same or different envelopes and should anything else be written on each of them?
3. What are the names and id #s of reps that gave you this info?

Anybody buy the drive after the 24th have any luck getting CC to honor the $60 rebate? (i.e. instant $60 rebate). I special ordered on the 25th (sold out online and pickup) and was wondering what are my chances of getting everything honored.

Here's my story:

Ordered on 4/24/03 morning when all 3 rebates were still available. Didn't pick it up until today because I wanted to see how the Corporate Office was going to handle it first. When I went to pick it up and questioned them about the $60 rebate, the 2 folks behind the counter stated that they had gotten an email from Corporate that all inquiries should call the 800 Cool line. Darn! No IR for moi. So I call the Cool line and got a nice lady who said they were very aware of the problem and to go ahead and send in the rebate anyway, to the same exact address. No mention of pooling the $80 and $60 MIR together.

All these different variations of what the Cool line has told people to do is making me very anxious, I have a feeling somethings gonna get screwed up. I'm gonna send them an email explaining the situation and whatever they reply, I'm printing it out and including it with my rebates when I send it out to make sure I don't get screwed.

On the bright side, I gotz me a 8mb SE!!

BTW, this was at the CC by the Galleria in Dallas.
