The T1 provider we have at a location crapped out on us and it's going to be on a DSL backup line for the time being (3Mb/768Kb).

Is anybody familiar with connecting a Cisco 2600-series (in this case a 2651) router with a DSL line? Is it best to just enable the second FastE interface and go through that, or is a separate WIC necessary?

Assuming that the router is doing the NAT for you and that the T1 provider and DSL provider are two separate entities.

Then yes, enabling the 2nd interfacec and then making them the secondary route for 0.0.0.0 should do the trick.

Tell us more about your network... There are a bunch of different scenarios which may affect the advice given above.

This particular office is a pretty simple setup.

We formerly had a full T1 line coming into the building, plugged into a T1 WIC on the Cisco 2651. FastE 0/0 is plugged to our two stacked 24-port GigE switches, which go out to the network.

The 2651 acts as the router and firewall and has VPN software on it.

About a week and a half ago, the T1 provider "accidentally" put in a disconnect order to Verizon (the local telco). We suffered for about a week with no connectivity here whatsoever while they fed us a lot of BS, and finally told them to take a hike and got Verizon to expedite a DSL for the building.

We've completely pulled the plug on the T1 for now and I'm not sure if/when we will go back to it so right now I want to configure everything without the T1 in the picture.

You may be able to get a DSL WIC for the router but you would have to check Cisco's site and I doubt it would be cheap. Why not just check with Verizon and find out what kind of DSL router you'd need?
I know the Cisco 678 routers are being sold on ebay for between 50 and 100 bucks and those are great little DSL routers.

WIC-1ADSL is the part (list $750) and if you have an older router, you may have to upgrade your IOS to support that card.
