Citi Card for College Students. Get $50.

Citi Platinum Select Card for College Students by 5/31/04 and get $50 with first $100 in purchases. This was passed out/advertised at my campus but the link doesn't seem to be directly affiliated with citibank. I already have a cc and I don't want another one, but might be good for other students looking for a card.

Giving poor college students credit cards is a great idea!

I still remember screening calls for my roommate in case it was time for the daily call
from his friendly Citibank rep asking when he was going to pay something on his maxed out card.

Edit: I applied for this card, and it got here about ehh...a week ago. Citi has good customer service, as far as I hear...not as good as AMEX, however.

If there is a referrer in that redirect link, it probably has to do with the people who distributed these around the campus. I have no idea what bridgetrack is though.

I hope most of you who may be applying for this realize that applying for a credit card hurts your credit rating. Keep this in mind before going ahead and taking the hit for $50, since it may be able to end up costing you much much more than that down the line when applying for a loan or something.

This is why you shouldn't be applying for credit cards you can't afford. How hard is that to understand?

I think what he was trying to say is that applying for (and getting) multiple credit cards can hurt you. When a lender looks @ you credit, and sees you have 4 cards with a total of $20000 limit, they are going to think twice about giving you that loan for your car. Also applying for multiple cards within 3 months (I think that is the amount of time) looks bad. So if you dont have any cards, and havent been rapidly applying for them, go for this deal. Spend $100 on the card, pay $50 off with the gift, pay the other $50 out of pocket, then cancel the card, or keep it. Its like 50% off!!!!

I actually need to get a credit card for my daughter (20, finishing 2nd year of college).. I guess more accurately she needs to get a credit card.. in the next couple months.. she's going to be out of the country for 2nd summer session and I'd just be more comfortable if she had a credit card with her in case she runs into some emergency situation that she lacks sufficient funds in her bank account to cover.

I don't want her to be getting and cancelling cards though, would like to find one that she can get now, that will serve her well for a few years at least.. I don't expect she'll use it except for emergencies and the occasional hotel reservation or online purchase and I do expect that she will pay the balance in full each month, she's done well managing her money so far.. this summer study abroad thing is the first time I've needed to give her money since she graduated high school, I paid the airfare.. she could have, but.. she doesn't have a credit card and.. I haven't needed to pay for anything else, I want to pay for this.

so.. given the scenario.. 20yo college student needing a first credit card, wanting to keep it for a couple or 3 years at least to establish some credit history, wanting to use it for emergencies, reservations and the occasional online purchase, intending to never carry a balance.. is this a good deal / good card?
