having a good public transit is key to having manageable traffic. My bus and subway reduce cars in the area by 40-80%. Currently I'm trying bus routes in a district that'll drop people by the subway and the subway connecting the different districts.

They use it, I have a couple of transport hub areas in my city, cims will freely transfer.

There's also never a reason not to have a bus since it'll make you money.

I actually have free public transit since I have enough money and traffic is the main issue.

It's funny, my kids started playing SimCity in school as a "Future City" project and got themselves hooked (and me rehooked) on City builders. Sounds like Skylines should replace SimCity in the classroom and will blow my kids' minds too

So let's see some of your cities! This is my second go at it, my first one was very grid-like and I didn't like that. Started on this last night and put a couple hours into it. Didn't touch the speed-up button once, let it grow naturally. Named all the areas as well.

One thing I don't like is the road system... When starting out, you can only use roads that are a certain width. So I built my industrial area with these roads, then it got congested and I wanted to expand the roads to 4-lane roads (2 on each side). Well, to do this, you need to destroy any buildings that are in the way. But you can't leave room for anticipated road width because they won't build unless the block next to the road is assigned a color. Unless I am doing this wrong?

One thing I don't like is the road system...

The road system needs some updating. I have no clue how it works. I mean, it wont let you build a road that is less than a certain length (annoying), intersections mess up sometimes, and as you mentioned leveling up the roads means you are screwed when a road becomes traffic congested because you have no room to upgrade without demolishing buildings.

Is there a mode in this game that allows you an abundance of money up-front? Not so much for competing against AI or other players, but just to design and build for the sake of doing so?

kind of like the CIV2 special mode where you could edit the parameters but your game couldn't be submitted for ranking.

So this is my 2nd go at a city. Pretty much the right side is all residential, middle is commercial and far left is industry

I didn't really pay attention but assumed that would be the case. Though if the Cims only look at travel time, I'm missing out on a lot of money.

I did try a district with no road access to the rest of the city. There are no cars on the road, I provided walkways to nearby roads and placed bus stops and subway. I think it'll only work with residential since the rest need truck traffic for supplies. The district also needed all its own services since the rest couldn't come over.
