Um... smoking would be allowed only in detached single residences.

This is a stupid law, it forces smoking from outside, where it is harmless from a second-hand-smoke perspective, to inside where it is not harmless. /discussion.

Agreed, it makes about as much sense as outlawing barbequing outdoors.

They'll regret it when some whacko kills an officer trying to enforce that draconian law.

Not wacky at all. I've never smoked, and never will. But as long as it isn't being blown in my face, I don't care what somebody puts in their own body.

So you can't smoke in your front yard? I'd like to see them enforce that.

good law, needs more of that

better yet is to classify cigarettes as drugs, like it should be

Excellent. Simply removing smoking from buildings is not an acceptable solution if the smokers do their thing right outside the door or near a window. I have a neighbor whose parents make him smoke outside, but I can't have a window open on that side of the house without getting an asthma attack.

Yeah, classify it as a drug! As we all know, making drugs illegal has completely stopped people from using them!

do you think there would be fewer drug users than there are now if drugs were legal and you could buy them at the next store you can find?

Are your homes 6 inches apart? How does the smoke not disperse by the time it reaches your house? Do they ever mow their lawn? A lawnmower probably spews more fumes in 5 minutes than a smoker does in a month.

Nope, it would probably stay roughly the same. Drug use is quite common, and anybody who wants to do drugs likely already does. There would probably be more experimentation, but despite what the government propaganda says, not everyone who uses drugs becomes a hopeless drug fiend.

Either way, how is it any of your business what your neighbor puts in his body?

There is about 12 feet between the houses. The way the wind/air currents work, the smoke up in my face more often than not. End of story.

Where have you've been?

All new home construction has the houses only 12 inches apart, the roofs nearly touch at an inch apart.

It might not drop but the whole system would benefit. Less crowded jails because it would lower the crime associated with drugs and and no penalties for possession/sale. Also the cops and courts could better spend their time finding and prosecuting more danger offenders.

Imagine all the revenue local towns like this will get once cigarettes are declared an illegal drug like marijuana.

It could be a new boom for Americana.

Instead of making it illegal they should just shoot them on sight, how dare they smoke, it's just not Godly.

While we're speaking of decency, they need to make it illegal to be fat and wear tight-fitting clothing. If I have to see one more belly spilling over tight pants with a belly button ring guarding a hole to China I'm going to get cancer. Think of the children!

Actually banning gas guzzlers would probably save more lives than this law.

Nope, but the vain attempt at prohibition would not cause us to throw yet more money into that particular bottomless pit. The economic losses from the effort range from the tens of billions to about one hundred billion yearly, not to mention new tax revenue for the gov.

Here is the biggest crock of all
?What if every city did this, image how many lives would be saved? If we can do one little thing here at this level it will matter.?

How many lives are saved? NONE. Death is inevitable. You may prolong life. You may die in less pain...but you still die.

My quality of life would be greatly improved in the meantime.

Not to mention that every part of our environment is tinged with carcinogens anyways, our air, water, food, hygiene products all contain things that kill people. Better to target smokers since they don't have powerful lobbyists protecting them.
