A good mobile civ game would be awesome. Graphics have never been all that important to me in a civ game, if there were no combat animations like in civ one, it wouldnt bother me at all if it meant it would run on my phone.

It just doesnt seem like their terrain idea is going to change which improvements you want in which order, unless you happen to be missing certain terrain. I hope they dont go too overboard with city management options, if you are adding a version of sim city to civ I may never finish a game.

Civ has never been a terribly graphically intensive game, I certainly wouldn't use Civ as a deciding factor in your GPU purchase.

CPU may be a different story though.

I don't see anything about the throne room making a return

Features

EXPANSIVE EMPIRES: See the marvels of your empire spread across the map like never before. Each city spans multiple tiles so you can custom build your cities to take full advantage of the local terrain.

ACTIVE RESEARCH: Unlock boosts that speed your civilization’s progress through history. To advance more quickly, use your units to actively explore, develop your environment, and discover new cultures.

DYNAMIC DIPLOMACY: Interactions with other civilizations change over the course of the game, from primitive first interactions where conflict is a fact of life, to late game alliances and negotiations.

COMBINED ARMS: Expanding on the “one unit per tile” design, support units can now be embedded with other units, like anti-tank support with infantry, or a warrior with settlers. Similar units can also be combined to form powerful “Corps” units.

ENHANCED MULTIPLAYER: In addition to traditional multiplayer modes, cooperate and compete with your friends in a wide variety of situations all designed to be easily completed in a single session.

A CIV FOR ALL PLAYERS: Civilization VI provides veteran players new ways to build and tune their civilization for the greatest chance of success. New tutorial systems introduce new players to the underlying concepts so they can easily get started.

You know, Civ 2 MPG is probably still one of my all time favorite games but I don't understand why the throne room is such a big deal to so many people? I mean it was kinda cool, I guess. But I never sat there playing any of the later ones thinking, this would be so much better if I had a throne room.

It made it feel like you were accomplishing something and not just blasting opposing CIVs to the moon. When your people loved you brick by brick you could see the progress of your blood, sweat and toil.

I think it sticks with me so much because I don't ever recall finishing my throne room.

I feel the same way about how they gimped the wonders upon completion which are now just flash videos instead of those epic construction visuals. Again it made a wonder feel like a wonder, not just another turn going by.

Given the focus on cities actually living on the world view, how about instead of the throne room you get monuments made in your honor that show on the world map in cities that appear after every We Love the King day?

If it isn't cut down for DLC the £49.99 is bearable but if they have features stripped out for DLC I will wait for the GOTY/Complete/Ultimate edition with everything included.

Hopefully it'll be more fun than V though, II & IV being the benchmarks there.

I have a feeling they will purposely hold back on features already seen in previous Civ games for the expansions/DLCs.

I've been interested in Civ games less and less. Played plenty of 3 and 4. Liked Civ 5 only after the expansions. I couldn't get into Beyond Earth at all.

This. Since Civ 4, waiting a year to play has been the better decision.

Applies to Hearts of Iron as well.

That rule goes back to Civ3 for me. They didn't even include a decent editor (features that were in civ2's editor) at first but patched it in, a year later or so IIRC. I was trying to edit unit values the first day I got the game (did they even long term play test it?). The multiplayer expansion was not good.

Civ4 was great after its expansions and well worth the $35 for the gold edition.

Civ5, I just can't get into. At least they have a demo version. I bought the gold edition and the last expansion on sales and regret it. That and the Babylonians were DLC. Extra cash for civs... ugh.

I hope they do a better job than Beyond Earth...good god that game sucks. I made the mistake of buying the Rising Tide expansion for it a couple of days ago and it still sucks (and boring to boot).

I fell into the same trap with BE.

Civ comes out this month and I'm on the fence about pre-ordering it.

The game looks solid and all the things they usually put in expansions is already in the base game.

I pre-ordered it, i'll put in enough hours most likely to make it worthwhile...

It is definately tempting from what I've seen of gameplay streams/videos.

I've told myself with the last two civs that I would buy after the first expansion, both times my willpower failed :/.

Is there any chance that this game will be reasonably playable (HD, low settings, 30+ FPS) on fanless core M machines like the Surface Pro 4 m3 or Lenovo miix 700?
Or at least on SP4 i5 caliber of machine?

I'm in the market for a convertible soon, and would prefer a 2 in 1, but if needed, I could go with a Yoga convertible with 940MX GPU.

I pre-ordered BE and it was terrible, maybe a 4/10 for me. I won't be fooled again and will not buy this game until I know it's good, and also that it's at least 50% off... spending 80$ on a game is ridiculous and I refuse to do it.

Waaaaaaaaaay too expensive broken up game into small bite size DLC. I'll wait for the complete version in a few years time. Civ. BE (fast Mantle version) is still good for a few hundred hours till then for me.

It's coming out with all the content usually reserved for DLC/expansions. That's a HUGE switch from how Firaxis usually does it.
