Hmmpf, quite upset now. I've been thinking I can play Civ 5 tomorrow, but now I notice the UK release date isn't until Friday. This is what digital distribution is supposed to fix =(

Aren't all these Pre-Release specials basically DLC's?
That's my understanding from some of the early postings I've read here.

The DLC's I'm referring to are the Civilizations/Leaders - which should have been part of the game from the start.

This is just milking customers, and I'll not support it.

I agree that the DLC is totally lame, but I think in reality, what they offer is generally useless to most Civ fans. and as others have said, the mod community will step in and make all of that stuff obsolete. I think steam is awesome, and glad that it's available this way.

I'm actually waiting ~1-2 months for this b/c Civ always releases a huge patch within that time that fixes most of the balancing issues and bugs (though I don't remember these ever being buggy games). Also, I'm hoping for a holiday Steam sale...

Anyway, How many of you have already asked for the week off?

I actually had planned to skip this iteration since, for some reason, I never got hooked on Civ IV the way I had with the previous versions. Then I did some reading on the changes they're making this time around, and I'll be picking up a copy tomorrow.

Folks, don't forget to take a small break to tell the rest of us how the game is after you've played it! For some reason, I decided to go with FFXIV, which is also releasing this week, and wait on Civ5. There's no way I would have time for both--but since FFXIV could definitely use some tweaking by the devs anyways, I probably should have picked up Civ5 first just because I really really really want to play it.

Ugh, I really should be looking for a job, but I'm not sure I'll be able to resist the allure of a new Civ.

That is why I decided not to get the FFXIV collectors edition. Civ V will more than occupy my time for a bit while I wait for FFXIV to be patched over the next month or so.

I started a new job two weeks ago. Pre-ordered Civ V, a game that I have been waiting years for and is the only game I can see myself playing for the forseeable future. The caveat is that when I get home from work around 2 pm (I get to work at 5 am) I feel like I've been run over by a truck and I just want to be left the F alone and go to sleep until the next morning which is when the process repeats itself. I think I might have stumbled into hell, folks.

civ V will release you from this hell, and introduce you to a new one in which you get no sleep at all. Crack is better than sleep. Everyone knows this.

I've been there before, but:

my brain - sleep = quality of life vanishes

This really sucks, I have to do the responsible thing now. Long gone are the days when I could stay awake playing games until my eyes felt like I had two shiners, and could guzzle coke and eat pizza until my urine was brown and my bowels stopped functioning.

Most people take around six weeks to fully adjust to a new schedule, so maybe in a month's time you can be happily playing the afternoon away in CivV.

Demo should be out the tomorrow - which should give you an idea of how it plays?

"This game will unlock in approximately 15 hours"

Where and what time zone are the servers located in? The freakin MOON?
