This is "for real". They are NES games in a controller which looks like an N64 controller. You select the game via a menu. There is no option for additional games via cart - all the games are on a ROM.

Inasmuch as this system violates Nintendo intellectual property, as well as that of some other companies, including what are now Hasbro patents, I'm guessing that the mods will lock this thing up, and/or perhaps call Nintendo to advise them of the piracy issues involved.

I've seen these before, when I was in the middle east. very cheap and there will be no warranty. avoid this. NOT a hot deal. also, If this was legal, don't you think a reputable company would put one out?

Not that I endorse this sort of thing, but why pay for bootleg classic games that are already available on the web?

Also, some of the arcade games like DigDug are available commercially, and you get the arcade version, not some lame console conversion. A trip to CompUSA will yield a handful of these classic gaming packs.

Interesting toy for the kids/car.

I ordered one, will let you know.

They are a certified yahoo merchant and must abide by yahoo standards. Which i'm sure includes not selling illegaly licensed toys.

Would be perfect for the car with a small video screen. May be able to push into my laptops wintv usb card. wewp

They claim next day shipping and $5.00 for usps priority air mail. Will post results on item when received.

Why would you want to hook this up to a laptop? There is an easier way that can be legal if you make the ROMs yourself. I'm not gonna say what it is, but if you have been using computers very long you should have come across it.

Yahoo isn't going to do anything unless they get a letter from a lawyer representing one of the copyright holders of the games...and nobody is going to spend money to defend the copyright on a game that hasn't been on the market in over a decade.

Besides, I'm sure that Yahoo doesn't know half of what is being sold on their servers.

The only reason I was interested in this is because I collect "classic systems". Not that this is a classic, but it does play classics!

Look, we really have no idea whether this product is legal or not, so there's no reason the MOD should be locking this and dashing letters off to anybody. If you want this deal, buy it. If you don't, don't.

Something tells me you're not exactly getting a top-quality version of Lode Runner or Dig Dug here, so I wouldn't worry too much about copyright infringements. For $25, you probably get what you pay for.

Buy with a reputable credit card and you have nothing to worry about.

The versions on these systems are the versions of the games released for the NES 8 bit videogame system, which, in some cases (Nintendo releases) identical to the arcade versions.

I don't think that you are right that companies don't care about their "old" intellectual property rights. Someone I know just got a cease and desist letter with respect to multicarts he used to make for the Colecovision system and Hasbro has filed suit agains egames for their Centipede knockoff which is made for PC and sells for under $10.

Particulartly with respect to trademark rights, if a company does not enforce their rghts, they may lose them.

If you want to enter a conversation on any topic here, you need to know what you are talking about. These games are NOT knockoffs -they use the direct code from the original NES carts - violating the copyrights of the owners of that code, and the trademarks in the names of the games and their characters. The system violates Nintendo, Hasbro and other patents as well.

That all said, my comment about the mod contacting Nintendo was sarcasm in response to the mods calling some other company about a web site pricing error. That was a joke. I guess the humor was too high brow for you.

My point is: everyone is throwing around a lot of legal allegations about how this company is ripping off Nintendo, and we really have no idea how they came to sell these games, do we?

You're allegations that "These games are ... violating the copyrights of the owners of that code, and the trademarks in the names of the games and their characters. The system violates Intel, Hasbro and other patents as well" will either get you gold stars from those companies or a libel lawsuit from this merchant.

I'm not saying you're wrong. Maybe they are stolen. My point is we really don't know for sure. I was just arguing against what I saw as an impending lock-down from the mods on something that various people here are hypothesizing may be a scam, but may in fact very well be just some $25 piece of arcade junk that isn't bothering anybody, least of all Nintendo.

Chill out.

And the broader picture here: I know how the first goal of everyone on this board is to maximize profits for corporate America, BUT, even if Holycrap's theory is true, don't assume that the FBI is going to be knocking on your door.

Buy it or don't buy it, but if you do, you're not going to get sued.

Ok. Here is the basis for my opinion:

1. I am an intellectual property lawyer. I've litigated patent, trademark and copyright lawsuits.
2. I've seen these systems in action. I have clients in the video game business and have seen these actual systems in work. I've seen them display games with both copyright and trademark notices in the games.
3. Many of the game names mentioned are the subject of federal trademarks. All of them are copyrighted.

I'm not looking for a gold star - and I'd gladly accept a libel claim from the company selling these devices as truth is an absolute defense to such a claim.

Again, I'm not suggesting the thread be locked or anyone be advised - that was sarcasm. As an end user, don't expect any of the companies involved to come knocking on your door either.

Just because a copyright or trademark is old does not mean that companies will not protect it. See, for example;
http://yahoo.cnet.com/news/0-1005-200-2033973.html?pt.yfin.cat_fin.txt.ne (relating to PSX, N64, SNES and NES games).
http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/000419/ma_hasbro__1.html announcing settlement with some defendants in suit over Tetris, PacMan, Missle Command and Centipede.

I'm gonna guess the same folks who think this may not violate the rights of Nintendo and others are the same folks who claim they really thought the buy.com $50 off $500 coupon was supposed to be $50 off of $50.

This is kinda funny:

onehitwonder web-site quotes...

"This one is so cool! lode runner karateka all of them..."

"I received the Mega Joy II's and Mega Gun's and they are great. I look forward to doing business with you again..."

"Help us we can't stop playing Lode Runner and Galaga..."

"Best $26 I have ever spent!"

diablonhn's quote from above...

"...a total piece of crap, no color, all black and white"

I don't think they will be adding diablonhn's quote to their list. hehe

This is just a bootleg nintendo machine with joypad built-in and some xxx in 1 games built-in. This appeared in Hong Kong and China 2 years ago. If they are still selling this thing now, it should be just about us$6.

Starcropper, are you somehow suggesting that the reviews of "lode runner karateka" are less than sincere?

Well I say screw Nintendo. If they release some of the classic games people won't bother going through the problem of creating devices such as the one mentioned. I just hope they have enough common sense to include atleast a SNES emulator in the upcoming Dolphin........

I would never waste my money on this but it looks like some of you people out there have actually purchased this. "OUT OF STOCK" it says.

This looks like a crappy little system.

I would much rather buy a Nintendo Entertainment System and buy used games for $1.00 each at a local store. There used to be a New Design NES 2 that retailed for $49. Does anyone know of a store that still carries those? A NES with top cartridge loading would be sooooo dope
