clean your videocard for RMA

is there any way i can clean my card to send it to the rma? it has alot of sticky stuff on it. anything i can use?

ahah! i just got it from a recent trade. he watercooled the card and there are like black residue on the card....but i took it all of and now the card is sticky....like in back of a sticker if ur smeer the sticky part.

If he watercooled the card than chances are he probably overclocked it (how many people watercool their rigs and don't oc???) too which would make the warranty void (unless it's an EVGA card).

You might try some WD-40 on a Q-tip or GooGone.

Umm, correct me if I'm wrong but he didn't OC the card. It may have been the guy before him that OC'ed it. Do we even know why he is having to RMA it?

It has heat issues and ATI tool detects the card at 600/1400 which is insane.

can't you soak electronics parts in plain isopropyl alcohol and clean it that way? I had an old motherboard which I was able to clean by soaking it in it.

Are you sure the card has heat issues? I know x1800s have mad heat issues if you use the Omega drivers, are you using them?

Usually those issues don't happen as much with the ati drivers...

it dosent matter at all if he oced or not, the bigger problem was the cooling system was changed, and then probably changed again or changed bakc, which is definite and thus voids the warranty too.

Since there is no hard evidence that the card was OC'ed (some people watercool just for the silence factor and the enhanced cooling), I bet Mineral spirits will do the trick (local hardware store).

I don't see how overclocking a card would void the warranty. My MSI 6600GT came with overclocking software built into the drivers. There was a warning message of some sort (I didn't read it all), but if the card was to fry from using the built-in overclocking, I would have no bad conscuous RMAing it.

I've never actually heard of a card going bad just from overclocking. I've seen artifacts and system hang-ups, but every card I've ever used has always recovered after a reboot, or by lowering the speeds back down. Never, ever had one outright fail from overclocking it too high.

I clean my whole computer with air vacuum. It takes out dust from CPU fan to HDD slots. Its makes your box look totally new ...

your not supposed to clean the fans with them because it makes the fan go faster than its supposed to wearing/breaking bearings.

sounds cool though i tried to do it with a shot vac and it didnt do ****** so i just ended up taking out fans/covering them up. and blowing it down.

jeez give the dude a break. im sorry, but there is no-way-in-hell im going to pay an extra $200 for another video card and have the broken equivalent sitting right on my desk, my fault or not. Let the guy decide what he wants to do, its his card, his conscience, and he is doing whats best in his personal interest. Please stop with the "guilt trips" as if any of you haven't did anything dishonest that was in your best interest.

I would RMA that card worry-free in a heartbeat. I suppose there wouldn't be filesharing if left up to you "innocents". Screw that.
