Cleaning ear canalphones?

I recently bought the Shure E3c earphones and then got some Comply Canal Tips to go with them.

So far I've been very happy with the results...EXCEPT for all the collected gunk getting on the canal tips (yes, my ears are quite adept at wax production).

Does any have any tips for getting the gunk off? At $12 for 3 pairs (after shipping), I don't want to so quickly discard them and there's specific warnings NOT to use any cleaning solutions or that you shouldn't wash them.

if your using the foamies... i would recommend dunking them in rubbing alcohol and scrubbing them and then letting them air dry overnight.

for the silicon or soft rubber inserts... rubbing alcohol on a damp napkin will do the trick.

edit... the disclaimer is full of it. i clean my foamies once a week with no problems... just let them air dry over night and do not squeeze them after cleaning... it will deform the foam just gently scrub and then air dry.

For the yellow shure foamies, I just soak them in hot water for a couple minutes then squeeze them out with a paper towel if they start to look grody. I find I can only wash them once before they get rough and uncomfortable though. I bought a big bag of 20 or so off amazon for like $15, well worth it.

I would suggest cleaning your ears more often.

You'd be amazed at how much better canalphone foamies are at picking up earwax than qtips or even liquid ear cleaner...I've considered using a pair strictly for cleaning my ears.

Thanks for the suggestions folks. I've gone ahead and just used a damp towel and gently wiped the gunk off. I'll definitely have to let these badboys sit overnight to dry, they sucked up the dampness big time.
