I've used newspaper for more than 40 years to clean glass. It works very well.

I also use ammonia-based window cleaners for some things as well...Depending on what the film on the windows is from, (smoking, residue from the manufacturing chemicals, etc.) newspaper and water may be all that's needed...or the OP might need something that cleans better...ammonia, rubbing alcohol, etc.

What makes her an authority?

she is a woman. she was born with cleaning powers. it is in her nature and i am sure she has cleaned more than you (assuming you are man, of course)

its like i wouldnt trust you to make me a sammich. but your wife, sis, or mom sure why not. nothing personal, but i bet they make hella sammiches
better than you.

however, i will try this ridiculous newspaper thing this weekend and will let u know how it goes.

So whats the scale you give it?

I used windex for everything, even on computer monitors, I have yet to see shit hitting the fan.:hmm:

Ammonia is a corrosive chemical. Cleaners with ammonia can be harmful to some of the sunshade films applied to the inside of auto glass. Just the fumes can cause trouble. That is the only concern I know about. Be advised that washing your car or windows with detergents/soap are corrosive also and should definetely NOT be used on automobile glass as drips can mark the paintwork

White vinegar + water. Ammonia and alcohol are bad for acrylic plastics.

Newspapers can bleed ink and I fave found them generally difficult to use. Cotton towels work best imo.

WRONG. DONT USE WINDEX. The Ammonia will eat your film and or tint.

Some really good stuff that leaves my windows looking amazing, I think its called 19 oz. Invisible Glass aerosol glass cleaner. AMAZING

+1 for polishing off with old newspaper.

I clean a lot of car windows and monitor screens (Yes, I am obsessive-compulsive about clean glass/screens, so much so that I keep a bottle of Windex & paper towels in my truck:|), I use Windex exclusively along with high quality paper towels (Bounty, preferably).
Saturate surface with Windex, use paper towels to clean, then before the Windex dries, use a clean, dry paper towel(s) to polish to a shine.
I have never had any adverse effects on window tint, and as for newspapers, the few times I have used them, I could see an "oily" streaking look on the glass, not to mention it's a pain in the butt to work with.

Won't use windex anymore...

So white vinegar w/ water dipped in a newspaper? Sounds like the consensus.

I spray it on using an old Windex bottle, or similar, then wipe it off with newspaper. Btw, it goes without saying, but don't use coated, or colored paper. B&W newsprint works best.
