Cleaning My laptops LCD

Sorry, I know it isn't high tech, but...

On all my LCD screens - monitor, TV, camera, calculator, et cetera, I use regular ol' Pledge Furniture Polish and a paper towel.

Never scratched anything yet!

If it's made for fine furniture finishes, how abrasive can it be?

i dont plan on using any kind of cleaners, just some water, and a very soft cloth....nothing else. a furniture finish is alot tougher than your finish on your lcd display.

Water isn't the gentle substance ppl think it is!

Water is V corrosive! It will eat holes in lead, iron, and steel... oxidizes aluminum... eats brass and copper, et cetera.

It carved the walls of the Grand Canyon out of solid granite...

They put it in batteries... no water, no electricity, you know?

More importantly, it will short out your laptop if you aren't careful, and leave permanent marks and spots on your LCD screen if you don't dry it completely!

Pledge won't do any of this...

I use eye-glasses cleaner and a soft microfiber cloth. That seems to get the job done pretty well. I also usually clean it when the machine is on, with the backlight off (so I can see the smudges better) so the fluid will dry faster.

Pledge is full of waxes, oils, and other chemicals not really designed to be used on plastics. And water.. So that destroys your "water is bad" theory.

70% or less isopropyl alcohol is completely safe and almost all LCD manufacturers condone its use. I use that and a soft microfiber cloth. Paper towels are chock full of sharp fibers to scratch soft plastics.. Doesn't everyone know this? You don't ever want to use paper towels on CDs, why would you do it to an LCD?

Yes, water is caustic and abrasive, but so are practically all liquids given enough time, so that's a bit misleading..

I mix 70% isopropyl with some water and use a soft microfiber as well. I use it to clean my laptop keyboard and trackpad too. Good stuff.

I use a water dampened microfiber rag to wipe mine down. The water dries in seconds if that's an indication of how little water is being transfered.

yea i use glasses cleaner liquid with a soft microfiber cloth (the cloth used for cleaning glasses) too. no problems with it

I would stay away from paper towel...it's like running a tree over your display. Cotton on the other hand has less friction and will do less harm. ...speaking on a molecular level of course...

well all we have around me is filtered water, no pipe water whatsoever so most of the bad stuff is gone.

I spritz a little lens cleaner on a soft cloth. It works fine. Water here in AZ is actually fairly abrasive because of high mineral content. If I used water, it would be distilled water.

I rarely have to clean my laptop LCD. I keep it closed when not actually using it - and I try not to sneeze on it.
