cleaning of the computer :)

Are there any free cleaners ( i know about ccleaner) that will speed up the pc, and that people have good experience with. Im running vista 64 bit.

I meant gets rid of all of the unnecessary stuff, and cleans up the registry. Basically so that it runs as fast as first purchased.

Having a few unused entries in the registry doesn't really slow the computer. The best thing you can do is make sure there's enough freeboard on your hd(I like 30% or more free space), and limit startup programs. The computer will never run quite as fast as when it's new. You have A/V running, less free hd space, and context menus with added entries.

I want to tweak MS.

I dont like that they use all my ram. I am very stingy about that..

Well, I did notice that I could make adjustments in the graphic (I guess) part of XP. How my desktop is viewed, colors.. In one shot..
I can let microsoft do it, or set it for best performance..
I dont need a mouse that does tricks or wags its tail, it just needs to obey me when I click.
And that kind of stuff will take up ram wont it?

Would like to really tweak this xp and get rid of things I dont really need or want.

That's what RAM is there for. What's the point of having x amount of RAM if you're not going to let the OS take advantage of it?

/agree. Let Windows manage your memory. If you're running out in some particular scenario then post that and we'll discuss it. Otherwise don't worry about it.

The registry does not slow Windows down, per se. If the registry is telling the operating system to load software that is no longer present on the system, then that can slow things down a little bit, mostly at startup. However this will usually prompt an error message. Other than that, what slows Windows down is loading lots of software. If your system tray stretches a third of the way across the bottom of the screen, that's a good place to start.

The only tweaks and cleans you need to do to keep your computer healthy is:

1. Uninstall unnecessary programs (especially at startup)
2. Use CCleaner to clean registry
3. Make sure absolutely no adware or viruses
4. Defrag

That is all.

If you're computer is still "slow" then you need to upgrade something hardware related.

ncleaner is pretty decent, it will clean your registry, and also remove temp and unnecessary files.
