This whole discussion just exemplifies how insecure, judgemental, and close-minded many Americans are. Travel to almost any other developed place in the world, and you won't find any distinctions between gay and straight fashion -- it doesn't matter. There are different types of fashion -- high or cutting edge, traditional preppie, punk, etc., and of course it's fine to express an opinion or say that a particular style is not yours. Relating a style to a particular group of people (and in a seemingly derogatory way,) however, is just stereotyping -- and adds no value to the discussion. It's the same phenomenon behind the fact that many American men will not show emotion, or show affection to other men -- it's just not considered manly!
As an aside, check any "high-fashion" type magazine and you'll find that the Structure/Express for Men styles are the styles that are generally considered the "in" fashions world-wide, whether you're gay, straight, bi, or none of the above. The fact that so many here relate those fashions to gay men only illustrates how out of sync with the rest of the world Americans can be. I'm not saying that's good or bad, it's just an observation. Anyone who made the gay comments and hasn't done so, take a trip anywhere in Europe, or even most places in Cananda -- you'll find yourself walking around saying "He must be gay, he must be gay, oh, and him too....aren't there any straight men in this country?!?!?"
And I personally DO buy clothes at all of these places -- A&F, AE, Structure, Gap. and BR.
