Cleared IE History

After I clear out my Temporary Internet Files and my history, I can log back in and start typing a url and low and behold there it goes filling in my url again. Where all does IE store the history of your url's and can I clear them?

The autocomplete URL should not be happening if you cleaned out your history. However, your actually history files do not typically get deleted when you do this. If you go to your history folder, there will be a lot of crap in there.
Depending on your OS, your history files may be in a couple of different locations. You can just run a search for "history" and you should see your folder.

Right click the taskbar -> "Properties" -> "Advanced" tab -> "Clear"

I did the search for history and got nowhere. I cleared the history again and went out and back in and it did the same thing.

Hello,

Try going to start/settings/taskbar and start menu. Then select start menu programs tab, and clear the Documents menu. It says that it also clears other personal history lists.

If you're using 98 or ME, your History folder should be in c:\windows\history

I have Win ME, and using IE 6 with no such problems. Maybe upgrade to IE 6?

Go into your Internet Options. Click on Content then Auto Complete. You can then clear forms and also uncheck the things you don't want auto completed like web addresses, forms, etc.

Also, TweakUI adds some functionality to automatically clearing document histroy and a few other related issues.

okay, here are my 2 cents:

cent 1: Windows has the annoying habit of storing things all over the registry, if you search your registry for "history" or "urlhistory" you'll find quite a lot of entries refering to the history and url history. my advice is not to tamper with it, if you do: first backup your user.dat and system.dat files.

cent 2: are you behind a proxy? if your not accessing the internet directly trough your computer the server will save ALL of your inet explorer history, and there's no way for you (unless admin of the server) to delete it in a straight forward fashion.

He just wants to know how to clear the auto complete. Follow my instructions above and like sketcher said there are also utilities/programs out there to clean up things for you.
