If you guessed global warming, you would have guessed RIGHT!

So these clowns expect us to take them seriously when they come up with SHIT like these. How the FUCK would a CLIMATE scientist know a damn thing more about the cause of the war than anybody else? Here the rest of the world thought it was due to the instability created by Bush by detonating the Middle East coupled with the massive influx of easy worldwide communication through the internet.... I guess the "scientists" know better. The hubris in this proclamation is frankly jaw dropping.

The bloody conflict in Syria—which enters its fifth year this month—has killed almost 200,000 people, created 3.2 million refugees, and given rise to the murderous extremist group known as the Islamic State. The roots of the civil war extend deep into Syria’s political and socioeconomic structures. But another cause turns out to be global warming.

Muslims are taught to kill and murder in the name of Allah???

This might have something to do with it.

You need to read your own links better.

You already said in the past you've chosen not to accept climate science because you think it would cost you money. Why bother to look for reasons to justify this when you've already said you aren't open to rational argument?

Kind of a misrepresentation. One of many causes. I mean, it even says right here:
The drought didn’t cause the violence—it just made Syria susceptible.

The shear magnitude of brainwashing on this issue is amazing.

I 100% agree. Climate change deniers have become so brainwashed that even common sense arguments about its effects are treated as some sort of conspiracy.

You have to wonder how people got this nuts, you know?

Maybe try to quote the actual journal article instead of a webpage trying to get hits?

There is evidence that the 2007−2010 drought contributed to the conflict in Syria. It was the worst drought in the instrumental record, causing widespread crop failure and a mass migration of farming families to urban centers. Century-long observed trends in precipitation, temperature, and sea-level pressure, supported by climate model results, strongly suggest that anthropogenic forcing has increased the probability of severe and persistent droughts in this region, and made the occurrence of a 3-year drought as severe as that of 2007−2010 2 to 3 times more likely than by natural variability alone. We conclude that human influences on the climate system are implicated in the current Syrian conflict.

From the actual synopsis. Putting theories out there in science isn't "hubris" and this certainly isn't the work of "clowns." Maybe if you had even bothered to take the 1 min needed to read and understand the freely available abstract in one click then you'd be better informed on what the article is doing. Droughts have long caused instability and if they tentatively showed that climate change may have caused these weather patterns then that is an amazing finding.

The article clearly states that one of the causes of the Syrian War was global warming. That may be "common sense" in your world, but it's pure insanity in mine.

We should have given them jobs so they could control climate global warming change and we would have peace on earth!

Like I said, deniers are so nuts about this issue they are no longer able to look at common sense arguments rationally. Look to Subyman's post above for details.

I would also strongly suggest you actually read the article.
Yeah, I guess they were never dry for three years before the 21st century, eh? The weather equals climate argument is pathetic.

Next thing, you guys will be telling us you can see Climate Change from your house.

So, our climate scientists scour the globe for instances of war/disaster and then somehow attempt to link it to global warming? To what end? To further science OR perhaps to push for a POLITICAL agenda? Why do climate "scientists" only look for disaster areas and not boon areas? If the bad is all down to global warming, wouldn't all the good be as well?

Given the long rich history of war/famine on earth, climate "scientists" will never run out of global warming disasters to report on. Makes one wonder how the countless catatrosphic disasters of the past ever happened without global warming to cause them.

/facepalm

You're just proving my point.
Well if war does come to California, we'll know that global warming may have caused their drought and that it may have been a factor causing the war....just like Syria. There is NOTHING conclusive here...just speculation and sensationalism. Is this the kind of science you want us to believe in?

Like I always say, climate change deniers are akin to holocaust deniers.

If moderate syrians had won the war and transformed Syria into something like Turkey, do you think the global warming "scientists" would have made this same connection?

Well, the reasons are completely different. Holocaust deniers are such pretty much exclusively for bigoted reasons. Climate change deniers can be such due to dumb ideology, but they can also just be ignorant or too stupid to learn.

I am not a climate change denier. The climate will always change and has always changed. I am denier that human influences on the climate are having some catastrophic impact that we will not be able to handle easily.

Of course there's nothing conclusive, it's just probabilities. That in no way means it's 'just speculation' though.

What's funny is if the paper was saying 'climate change was definitely the cause of X" they would be engaging in precisely the kind of bad science you're accusing them of. Instead, the argument is basically this:

1. Droughts cause migration and increase the probability of conflict, all else being equal.

That's a pretty uncontroversial statement. Everyone knows that's true.

2. Climate change leads to more extreme weather events, specifically a drier climate in that region. If point #1 is true, climate change could reasonably be viewed as a contributing factor in this conflict.

Like I said, pretty much common sense, you just have to look at it rationally.

What if we made the world a better place for no reason? Right?
