You guys really need to walk away from the Journolista pablum you have been getting fed. Go catch an old time movie. Maybe if you did, you would see that Clint was channeling Jimmy Stewart in "Harvey."

While you go about spewing your hatred for older folks, you fail to realize that they vote. And they vote without fail, which is more than can be said for the X, Y and Z generations. Clint just reached out to them in a way that humorless Obama and his minions cannot.

Y'all are right that the country is talking about what The Man With No Name said and how he said it. He said what so many others have been saying. And he said it in a way that those of you channel surfing MSDNC would have to strain to hear. You had to pay attention, when you are so used to not doing so.

Anyway, it was some of the best political theater that I have ever seen, delivered by one of the great "tradesmen."

And you just don't get it! Yet. :awe:

And none of that matters. The bottom line is, this was supposed to be Romney's night. Instead, we're talking about a bumbling Eastwood. Fission Mailed.

You are quite right.

I also loved his inclusing of "you wanna make my day". I also loved his inclusion of "when somebody does not do the job, you gotta let them go".

Just a few months ago I remembers all the republican talking heads shitting on Eastwood because of his Chrysler Super Bowl commercial. What a weird world we live in.

Not really. The convention is about energizing the base and reaching out to certain democraphics if possible. When was the last time we were surprised by the outcome of a convention?

Clint reached out to the older generations and the already loyal base. He succeeded int his. You can tell by Obama and company attacking Clint. If Clint was unsuccessful, there would be no need to attack him.

If you think Clint is just another old white person then you are
FUCKING RETARDED!!

He is a DNC shill, he has no choice but to blast the awesome Clint Eastwood. Had Abraham, Jesus, Mohammad, Crowley, Ghandi, Stalin, Mao, and Buddha all arrived together, arm in arm, saying they have put their differences behind them in their support for Romney, he would rail against all of them. If Bush came out and said he hated Romney, he would suddenly love Bush.

Nice spin.

No one is attacking Clint, it is more like feeling sorry for an old man who was babbling and talking to an empty chair. He made himself look bad and the convention look amateurish.

I like Clint but he got up there and realized that he really didn't have anything to say and then proceeded to demonstrate this insight for eleven minutes. Had he whipped out his guitar and started singing I Talk to the Trees that would have been worth the rest of the silliness.

I award you one cookie for putting Crowley in that mix.

Nikki and Rubio connected better and made better speeches than Romney. If Romney wants to connect to the average American he should take cues from them.

It's not within his personality, or lack thereof, to connect with people.

:\ I feel kind of bad for Clint. He really embarrassed him self with that incoherent rambling. Sad what has become of this man. I wonder how many people at the convention were laughing at him. Just sad over all. :\

I had no interest in watching the RNC or DNC but tuned in for Eastwood'ss speech out of curiosity and because I've always been a fan.
Very disappointed.

For the guy supposed to be the competent manager type, he has hired some real baffoons to ruin his campaign. Ann looked pissed.

Feel bad for Clint, that was an embarrassment.

Forget the Video – READ the Transcript. Eastwood’s Speech is Devastating to the Left

Emphasis Mine

EASTWOOD Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you very much. Save a little for Mitt.

I know what you are thinking. You are thinking, what’s a movie tradesman doing out here? You know they are all left wingers out there, left of Lenin. At least that is what people think. That is not really the case. There are a lot of conservative people, a lot of moderate people, Republicans, Democrats, in Hollywood. It is just that the conservative people by the nature of the word itself play closer to the vest. They do not go around hotdogging it.

So — but they are there, believe me, they are there. I just think, in fact, some of them around town, I saw Jon Voight, a lot of people around.

Jon’s here, an academy award winner. A terrific guy. These people are all like-minded, like all of us.

So I’ve got Mr. Obama sitting here. And he’s — I was going to ask him a couple of questions. But, you know about three and a half years ago, when Mr. Obama won the election.? And though I was not a big supporter, I was watching that night when he was having that thing and they were talking about hope and change and they were talking about, yes we can, and it was dark outdoors, and it was nice, and people were lighting candles.

They were saying, I just thought, this was great. Everybody is crying, Oprah was crying.

I was even crying. And then finally — and I haven’t cried that hard since I found out that there is 23 million unemployed people in this country.

Now that is something to cry for because that is a disgrace, a national disgrace, and we haven’t done enough, obviously — this administration hasn’t done enough to cure that. Whatever interest they have is not strong enough, and I think possibly know it may be time for somebody else to come along and solve the problem.

So, Mr. President, how do you handle promises that you have made when you were running for election, and how did you handle them?

I mean, what do you say to people? (Looking at empty chair that represents Obama) Do you just — I know — people were wondering — you don’t — handle that OK. Well, I know even people in your own party were very disappointed when you didn’t close Gitmo. And I thought, well closing Gitmo — why close that, we spent so much money on it. But, I thought maybe as an excuse — what do you mean shut up?

OK, I thought maybe it was just because somebody had the stupid idea of trying terrorists in downtown New York City.

I’ve got to to hand it to you. I have to give credit where credit is due. You did finally overrule that finally. And that’s — now we are moving onward. I know you were against the war in Iraq, and that’s okay. But you thought the war in Afghanistan was OK. You know, I mean — you thought that was something worth doing. We didn’t check with the Russians to see how did it — they did there for 10 years.

But we did it, and it is something to be thought about, and I think that, when we get to maybe — I think you’ve mentioned something about having a target date for bringing everybody home. You gave that target date, and I think Mr. Romney asked the only sensible question, you know, he says, “Why are you giving the date out now? Why don’t you just bring them home tomorrow morning?”

And I thought — I thought, yeah — I am not going to shut up, it is my turn.

(LAUGHTER)

So anyway, we’re going to have — we’re going to have to have a little chat about that. And then, I just wondered, all these promises — I wondered about when the — what do you want me to tell Romney? I can’t tell him to do that. I can’t tell him to do that to himself.

(Laughter)

You’re crazy, you’re absolutely crazy. You’re getting as bad as Biden.

Of course we all now Biden is the intellect of the Democratic party.

Kind of a grin with a body behind it.

(LAUGHTER)

But I just think that there is so much to be done, and I think that Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan are two guys that can come along. See, I never thought it was a good idea for attorneys to the president, anyway.

I think attorneys are so busy – you know they’re always taught to argue everything, and always weigh everything — weigh both sides… They are always devil’s advocating this and bifurcating this and bifurcating that. You know all that stuff. But, I think it is maybe time — what do you think — for maybe a businessman. How about that?

A stellar businessman.

And I think it’s that time. And I think if you just step aside and Mr. Romney can kind of take over. You can maybe still use a plane.

Though maybe a smaller one. Not that big gas guzzler you are going around to colleges and talking about student loans and stuff like that.
You are an — an ecological man. Why would you want to drive that around?

OK, well anyway. All right, I’m sorry. I can’t do that to myself either.

(LAUGHTER)

I would just like to say something, ladies and gentlemen. Something that I think is very important. It is that, you, we — we own this country.

(APPLAUSE)

We — we own it. It is not you owning it, and not politicians owning it. Politicians are employees of ours.

And — so – they are just going to come around and beg for votes every few years. It is the same old deal. But I just think it is important that you realize , that you’re the best in the world. Whether you are a Democrat or Republican or whether you’re libertarian or whatever, you are the best. And we should not ever forget that. And when somebody does not do the job, we got to let them go.

(APPLAUSE)

Okay, just remember that. And I’m speaking out for everybody out there. It doesn’t hurt, we don’t have to be

(Audience member shouts out “Make My Day.”)

I do not say that word anymore. Well, maybe one last time.

(LAUGHTER)

We don’t have to be — what I’m saying, we do not have to be masochists and vote for somebody that we don’t really even want in office just because they seem to be nice guys or maybe not so nice guys, if you look at some of the recent ads going out there, I don’t know.

But OK. You want to make my day?

All right. I started, you finish it. Go ahead.

Make..

AUDIENCE: My day!

EASTWOOD Thank you. Thank you very much.

oh yeah?
what is that if not a hotdogging photo op?

Duh, he was a rated fighter pilot?

George W. Bush joined the 147th Fighter Interceptor Group of the Texas Air National Guard on May 27, 1968, during the Vietnam War. He committed to serve until May 26, 1974, with two years on active duty while training to fly and four years on part-time duty.[1] In his 1968 Statement of Intent (undated), he wrote, "I have applied for pilot training with the goal of making flying a lifetime pursuit and I believe I can best accomplish this to my own satisfaction by serving as a member of the Air National Guard as long as possible."

In November Bush began flight training at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia. In December 1969, he began further training on the F-102 in Houston at the 147th's Combat Crew Training School, soloing in March 1970 and graduating in June, fulfilling his active-duty commitment.[1] He performed Guard duty as an F-102 pilot through April 1972, logging a total of 336 flight hours[2] and was promoted once during his service, to First Lieutenant.[3]

In November 1970, Lt. Col. Jerry B. Killian, commander of the 111th Fighter Squadron, recommended that Bush be promoted to First Lieutenant, calling him "a dynamic outstanding young officer" who stood out as "a top notch fighter interceptor pilot." He said that "Lt. Bush's skills far exceed his contemporaries," and that "he is a natural leader whom his contemporaries look to for leadership. Lt. Bush is also a good follower with outstanding disciplinary traits and an impeccable military bearing."[4]
...
Flight logs released in September 2004 in response to a lawsuit (see below) showed that Bush, who had been flying solo in the F-102A Delta Dagger, an interceptor, for most of his career...

He was not rated for the two seat fighter that he flew in on and was in the navigator seat. His dress was appropriate for the flight.

Perhaps we can contrast this with Obama, who has never flown anything but a desk? :awe:
