I'm not sure I'd call it overwhelming. It is important to remember that, even if all the electoral college votes according to state wins (it won't in at least a few cases), Trump's lead in a few key states is not only small, but has been shrinking as the final vote counts have gone up. That hoopla over demanding audits in certain states? That's because the margin of victory is so slim that an error could hand Clinton the win in some situations.

I'm not expecting Clinton to win the election through audits, but Trump doesn't have the clear mandate from the people that you saw for Obama in 2008 and 2012.
When you can give Pennsylvania and Michigan to Hillary and you still have 270 EC votes it is pretty overwhelming.

The EC is an embarrassment to democracy. An absolute embarrassment. This system has to change.

Good thing the United States is a republic then. Direct democracy is no good.

I personally think the electoral college was written into the Constitution with good reason and I'd be pretty damn scared of changing that just because one side is pissed they lost, regardless of when or which side.

In a society where the majority rules I find the electoral college ripe for reform. I know it was created as a way to provide equal representation to states with lower populations but when the popular vote is so wide between the candidates then I believe that there should be some provisional rules that take precedence. In essence it silences the voices of far too many people and needs to be amended.
We've never lived in a mob rule society.

Whenever a thread like this comes up its like somebody pulls the string on all of our backs and we all say the same thing. So formulaic. Anyway, I thought that was funny.

It's also funny that Trump is older than she is.
Trump has high energy though, Hillary has low stamina.

Seriously though, Trump was relentless in campaigning you have to give him credit for having the stamina to do what he did at his age. No?

The leads were slim in multiple states. Right now the questions are over three states. The chances of audits working entirely in Clinton's favor for those states are small, but that would be enough to reverse the win.

Take the actual count of votes in those states and realize that no, it was very, very small.
Yeah, he "barely" beat her in states that haven't been red since 88. Being able to lose two bigger states and still have enough EC votes is impressive whether you want to admit it or not.

"popular vote lead surpasses two million"

Is that with or without the 3 million+ illegal and erroneous votes for her?

I don't see a 2 million vote margin, how can a lead "surpass" 2 million when it hasn't reached 2 million?

I'm sure it was a good idea 227 years ago, probably for a lot of reasons OTOH, things have changed more than a little bit in the meanwhile. Today, it's just another level of partisan gamesmanship that has created non-democratic rule by 2 of the last 3 Presidents.

No matter who wins, they need legitimacy of a plurality vote that the EC failed to deliver in both instances. America needs that.

Someone needs to tell the DNC that they can stop printing up those provisional ballots, they really aren't going to matter anyhow.

I would ask you for evidence but you don't even qualify as a carpet bagger when it comes to elections in the US.
