Clinton Tells '60 Minutes' of Infidelity

NEW YORK - Former President Bill Clinton (news - web sites) called his marital infidelity a "terrible moral error" whose disclosure to his wife put him "in the doghouse," during an interview scheduled for this Sunday's "60 Minutes."

Why did he commit adultery with White House intern Monica Lewinsky?

"For the worst possible reason," Clinton said. "Just because I could. I think that's just about the most morally indefensible reason anybody could have for doing anything."

Questioned by CBS News anchor Dan Rather, Clinton said he, his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton (news - web sites), and their daughter, Chelsea, dealt with their family crisis through counseling.

"We did it together. We did it individually. We did family work," he said.

Clinton said he never considered resigning as president, and described his battle against the "abuse of power" of the impeachment process "a badge of honor."

"I stood up to it and beat it back," he said. "I don't see it as a stain, because it was illegitimate."

Excerpts from the interview, taped Tuesday at Clinton's home in Chappaqua, N.Y., and last weekend in Arkansas, were released by CBS Wednesday. The interview will occupy the full hour of the newsmagazine.

It is timed to next week's publication of Clinton's memoir, "My Life," which covers his Arkansas childhood, his tenure as that state's governor as well as his presidency. The book, published by Alfred A. Knopf, has a first printing of 1.5 million copies.

1) I seriously doubt Hillary is gay. Generally any woman in power is accused of this.
2) What other reason is there to have an affair? It certainly wasn't because Monica was the hottest chick this side of the Potomac?
3) Plenty of presidents and world leaders have affairs (as do CEO's and ditchdiggers). Clinton was the first ever to make the mistake of addressing the accusations, both publicly and under oath. Which then resulted in his impeachment.

Before his first term, while he was running for president for the first time, my grandparents moved to Arkansas thinking that Clinton was an ok guy and were considering voting for him. They moved down there and were surprised that EVERYONE they talked to HATED Clinton. They had not a single nice thing to say about him. While on vacation there, I even found a book at a souveneer (sp?) shop titled, Reasons to Elect Bill Clinton. It was about 100 pages long, all blank. And yes, I heard the stories about the parties and all that. He collected special, extra taxes for about 10 years to fix the roads in Arkansas (worst in the nation), and never put the new roads in. This is just a small part of the lecture I got about how terrible he was. I can't imagine that he suddenly changed his ways when he became president.

Some may not like clinton which is fine, but imo the very least that can be said for him is that he didn't trash a good thing - ie good times that the country was experiencing. Who would've thunk how easy it is for a president to really fuz up a whole lotta shiz...
