Anyone ever make brackets to convert the sk6 to a clipless style something like Swiftech's mcx462?

note:if there is a double post, it was unintentional...

Is the SK6 even large enough to be tapped with the dimensions and locations of the holes in the motherboard?

I'm thinking that this would involve a sort of metal bracket that goes through the slot between the fins and then screws into the motherboard. Why do you ask? Did you break off your socket cleats?

If you did break the ZIF socket tabs off, there are a few articles on the net about how to fix them

As far as mounting the SK6 onto the mobo itself... you can either tap holes for nuts and bolts (if the heatsink is large enough) or construct some way for use of strong springs...

The SK6 is not big enough to just drill and tap for direct mobo mounting. The reason I was wondering about this is simple, I hate clips. I've hated them for years. I was so happy when AMD required mobo manufacturers to use a standard direct mounting system.

I was thinking more along the lines of two 1/4" by 1/4" angle aluminum stock mounted to the 2 tabs on each side that the fan clips onto. These would extend out past the end of the HS out just past the 4 mobo mounting holes, connecting the two angle pieces would be just straight stock with holes in the corresponding places to do the nylon nut, bolt & spring thing. Now there's nowhere to mount the fan clips, but that's easy - two holes on each side, on the angle aluminum next to where they were originally.
Does this make sense?

A picture would be best... Actually trying your ideas and taking pics would be even better

Joe over at Overclockers.com did something similar. He used springs to connect the HSF to the mobo's mounting holes. I can't remember the link though...

That was kind of interesting, but I figured it'd be awkward as hell trying to get the springs on while holding the HSF above the core.
I guess I must try this myself.
