clock time changing

I have an ASUS A7V266-E, XP 2000, 512 meg Crucial RAM@ PC 2100, (2) IBM GXP 75 @RAID 0, Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, Geforce 4 Ti4600 Video, 3Com/USR 10/100 NIC, and Windows XP Home w/all updates/service packs applicable. All drivers current.

AND..

ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe w/onboard sound, 512 megs Corsair XMS ram @ PC 2700, Maxtor 20 gig 7200 RPM hard drive, XP 2800, Radeon 9700 Pro, the two onboard NICs and Windows XP Home w/all updates/service packs applicable

The problem: BOTH systems clocks losing time randomly. Only the hour though, minutes stay correct. They may lose 3 hours one day, none for a week, then random amount of hours several times in one day. Of course both are ASUS but other than that the only thing they have in common is the Windows XP Home. Any help would be appreciated.

Set it to automatically synchronize with the internat time server. Replace CMOS battery.

try setting it to use the time.nist.gov server rather than the time.windows.com server. Afew days ago i was experiencing strange time irregularities on both of my PCs similar to what you are seeing. Pretty sure it was the windows timeserver screwing up since everything went to normal when i switched to the .gov timeserver.

also, about 1/2 the time this is norton or some other antivirus program...an easy way to test the cmos battery is to just let it sit in bios....does it lose time there? if not, then you have a software problem (i think i had to take at least 3 calls a day about this at dell, it was ALWAYS norton)....

if your system holds bios settings, its not the cmos battery

I'm having a similar problem.

Have we decided it's the combination of software (Norton) and hardware (battery)? or just software.
