Clone old hdd to a new ssd. Should I format new ssd?

Just playing around. I have a new ssd that I want to install in my laptop.

Should I format the ssd first or just let the cloning software do its job?
Using acronis true image to clone ssd.

Oh,, do I need new or updated drivers for the new ssd?

This is the first time cloning and working with a ssd.

I already backed up old hhd

Yes, shouldn't need to pre-partition or format the SSD, if you are doing a "disk clone". If you were doing a "partition clone", then sometimes, pre-creating the partitions is helpful.

No, same SATA drives as used by the HDD. (This is a 2.5" HDD to 2.5" SSD clone, correct?)

Different rules apply if you were, say, cloning a 2.5" HDD to an M.2 NVMe drive.

I realize you already solved your problem, but for other users, if it's a Samsung SSD, then the solution is crazy simple. Samsung offers a free download utility that will automatically clone your primary disk (HDD or SSD) to a target Samsung SSD via SATA or USB. It's awesome and simple. I used it three times last night on three different computers.
