Cloning my HDD image (56k)

This is what I want to do.

Note that the data is smaller than the amount of free space available. It should fit.

However Acronis True Image 11 Home wants to copy all of the free space along too.

It wants to copy the whole 640GB partition, but won't shave off the free space no matter if I pick automatic, or any of the last options.

Help?

I'm kinda confused on what you are trying to do so if you could explain a bit more it would help. Are you looking to clone your C: drive to your E: drive? The way I understand it and I may be wrong but just because the drive isn't full doesn't mean acronis will only see the size of the drive as the used space only. If you have it partitioned for the full 640GB that's what acronis will try and clone. What you could do is reduce the partition size to just a bit larger than the used space and try the clone from there. Also not sure if you have tried it but I found it much easier to clone when using the boot disc, the clone never seemed to work correctly when I launched it from windows and restarted. Not sure this helped much.

Been cloning for many years - before ATI ever existed. The best cloning results always come from using the bootable CDR that the TI program prepares. If you want things adjusted for different space, etc., use PROPORTIONAL transfer. up or down - works either way.

Good cl;oning is best when the OS is not involved at all. Yeah - you can set up a clone job in Windows - but then it has to reboot and do it in command mode. Bypass that nonsense and use the bootable CD. Better gui all the way and no OS interference.


Also - always use MANUAL - never Automatic. Stay in control.

I using Acronis True Image for a year...
had never met any serious problems (Textwhich had were easily terminated by support center)

I tried Proportional, gave me the error that I needed more space.
