cloudftp the peripherals killer

Cloudftp is a device that was started from the kickstarter.com startup that allows you to connect any usb storage device to it and be able to access from a wifi that it creates or to have it attach to a preexisting wifi network and then to grab you data from there as if it where another drive on a network.

The cloudftp uses a web interface to allow you to access the data on any mobile and computer based browser.

So i just got the cloudftp yesterday and so far i love it. I was able to download movies that i had on a flashdrive to my ipad and watch them from there and on my android phone I was a stream them from the flash drive using the cloud ftp. movies came through very clear.

The next things that I'm going to be testing is how well pictures can be transferred and how well documents can be transferred.

looks useful for iOS people. For Android users, it's unnecessary.

Couldn't you basically setup something similar on a computer by sharing a usb drive or any other directory? Granted this seems more useful for people on the go who don't have access to a computer, but how often does that happen?

Peripherals killer? I don't think so. I don't see the cloud killing scanners, printers, human interface devices and monitors. Those are preipherals.

For ios yes it works great, for android its works good. im using it for grabbing media so i dont have to waste my cell data plan and also for the "i dont have wifi in my house." people. now for the printer thing, they are going to release a sdk so people to develop software to use that printer and and print from a cell phone and also to try to use the device as a hotspot that uses your cell data.

Why would I spend $100 on that thing and carry around bulky device when I can spend $1 and buy usb host cable and directly plug it in Android phone or tablet. USB host mode is supported by Android and I can directly plug in USB thumb drives, hard drives, mouse, joystick, etc. I have this cable and tried my thumb drives and it works perfectly. I can transfer files back and forth and stream movies, music, etc from the thumb drive. And most Android phones have SD card slot so it's even less of an issue. When I'm at home using WiFi, I can LAN access all my files on the network through free file manager program like ES Explorer and stream and transfer files at will.

Like I said, iOS users could benefit from this. Android users, not so much since it's not needed.
