this is easily one of the worst movies i've ever seen.

even balls of fury was better, and that movie completely sucked.

I really enjoyed this movie. Coupled with how the director reasoned the look of personal camcorders, I really think is a shining tribute to a brand new spanking monster hitting us hard in this present day... someone is going to document it. Guaranteed. It'll end up on the news or on youtube. The fact that it was NYC is a little overplayed, because well.. why the hell do all the monsters know NYC is basically the symbol of free life in the USA. Which is also interesting because a lot of people are claiming its too soon to have something attack New York and destroy all these symbols of the city and of the USA. I say, well its a movie, not real life, and I'm used to seeing NYC get destroyed in basically any major motion picture that has something that can destroy a city. lol

Saw it last night, gayest "ending" I've ever seen. Waste of $7

Children of Men was a horrible movie. I've lent it out to 5 people and they all hated it. No one else in the office would take it. Argh, don't get me started on that movie.

Does anyone know what happened in that scene? I didn't notice anything other than the couple.

A satellite falls from the sky and hits the water before it pans to the couple. This is apparently what awoke the monster.

Interesting, thanks.

this is one of the coolest movie experiences i've ever seen in the theatre.

to those of you saying it sucked i just do not understand. you knwo exactly what you are going to get with this movie from the previews.

*** POTENTIAL SPOILER ****
why the hell would you expect a back story? the whole movie is filmed from a dudes camcorder and that was known well before this movie was out. having some kind of back story would have been lame and thrown this movie off course.

i will admit i did have a nausious feeling initially before the Hud guy got the camera, and there were parts in the movie i had to look away from the screen.

Saw Cloverfield last night and it did not live up to the hype.

It is essentially Godzilla meets Blair Witch Project...the characters...the plot...anchoring the survival theme on a "love story"...none of the plot devices worked.

It was simply a well paced disaster movie with one of the most cliche and contrived "money shots" of the monster in the finale.

Entertaining movie. Definitely worth the $10 for me and my daughter to catch it in the DLP theatre.

Nice build up, good pacing, excellent sound. Put your anal-retentive logic on the back-burner for 90 minutes (zomg! How did that camera battery last that long,) because after all, it's a fvcking monster-movie.

Decent flick: 7.5/10

They could have easily set up a backstory since you're viewing the tape after the attack as already happened at some govt facility so jj abrams could have added in a before/after he he wanted to. Just like how Blair Witch injected the faux-documentary into the middle of the footage

but that's not what this movie was about.

it's about a tape that was recovered during after this attack, and just putting the tape in and watching it from start to finish.

its not a fake documentary like blair witch was, it's not a "movie" movie like all of hollywood.

it's a home-video.

I just got back from seeing this and I thought it was worth the money. It isn't the greatest movie ever but one of the best of the genre.

It's pretty good as a survival-horror type of thing, but they could have added more impending doom with more encounters with the little monsters. I pretty much expected that ending.

On the other hand it was an uncomfortable experience, I normally don't get motion sick from "anything" whatsoever, but this made me and my friend feel a little ill. Don't camcorders have motion stabilization as standard these days?

Fortunately we only paid the matinée price, so it was probably worth the $8.50.
7.8/10 unless you expected something with more depth and substance.

I just got back from seeing it. The first 10 min bored me to death. I experienced not motion headache but someone in our group did.

I wont say that it sucked (even though it did) because I want to be on the bandwagon.

No plot, characters are lacking, story just never comes together and you whisper to your friends trying to find out what just happened.

Saw it Sat, didn't really see any previews for it or anything... It's an interesting concept with using the 1st person view, but kinda lame in the end, very unrealistic.

put your brain on standby and go enjoy an exciting movie. Not that hard a concept. I saw it and thought it was great, lends itself to sequels which I hope will explain the story further.

The concept and setting was a good mix i thought. Everything in the middle after the party was great i thought.

SPOILER
-------------
I loved every part of the movie between the last part of the party and after they pulled beth out of the spike. I thought she was just a little too mobile in her condition. Hell i just thought she was just a little too alive when they found her. After that I just couldn't get back into the movie like the middle part.

-------------
Overall worth a watch, 7.5/10

Don't care what all the haters said, I thought this movie was awesome. Original in comparison to most of the stuff that comes out these days. Very intense the whole way through, perfect length. Great movie.

I don't know why everyone is upset about storyline..... there is not really supposed to be any storyline. It's a tape the government found from random people, and it has random things on it, most clips surrounding the group's attempts to survive a monster attack in NYC.
To me, doing it in the style they did, excused them from really coming up with some kind of meaningful plot, but in this sense, I think it takes a little more timing prepping a story of this style than a straight forward ordered storyline. In reality, it's a monster movie with a social commentary of the times that it was released in. Think about it, it's a tape... we document things like no other these days. If something happened, anywhere.. you can pretty much safely bet that a video documenting it, either from a camcorder or from a cell phone or digital camera.
Hell, for all we know, this group could have been the dumb ones.. although, in reality, a lot of people in their age group would make the decision to trek across the city to save a dear friend, especially for the stereotype lifestyles they were living (partied like successful college students). Maybe everyone else was a little smarter and followed the military to escape. This group not doing that, and being the ones that had the means to document... is pretty predictable actually. Among those types, something is pretty much guaranteed when it was a going away party. And you all know the crowd: always a mixture of artist and young business folk.

QFT

I saw the movie tonight and thought it was pretty entertaining for what it was MEANT to be. A movie clip filmed by a bunch of random young people. I went to see it with two of my other friends and they absolutely hated it. Why did they hate it? Because they didn't get the closure they wanted that a normal movie gives you. It didn't fit their little mold of what a movie was supposed to be. So they gave me crap for picking that movie (even though they were indecisive between this or the bucket list). Sorry, just ranting cause I'm still kind of frustrated. Too bad the bucket list got 40% on rotten tomatoes and this movie is at 70%. LOL
