Yeah I got that too ... people complaining that there was no closure, they never explained from WHERE stuff was or WHY it happened or WHAT happened later.

I was like... thats the whole point . They (the "documenters") don't know, so you don't know. It's not the greatest movie of all time but I'd have to file this one under the "like" category. The perspective also allowed for some truly scary edge-of-your-seat scenes (you felt sucked in).

I remember thinking halfway through that the movie was sort of like watching a really long youtube video. heh.

This new RT layout is awful. WTF were they thinking?

It is. I don't understand why they had to change it. The movie sucked. Horrible storyline.

I don't know why everyone is upset about storyline..... there is not really supposed to be any storyline. It's a tape the government found from random people, and it has random things on it, most clips surrounding the group's attempts to survive a monster attack in NYC.
To me, doing it in the style they did, excused them from really coming up with some kind of meaningful plot, but in this sense, I think it takes a little more timing prepping a story of this style than a straight forward ordered storyline. In reality, it's a monster movie with a social commentary of the times that it was released in. Think about it, it's a tape... we document things like no other these days. If something happened, anywhere.. you can pretty much safely bet that a video documenting it, either from a camcorder or from a cell phone or digital camera.
Hell, for all we know, this group could have been the dumb ones.. although, in reality, a lot of people in their age group would make the decision to trek across the city to save a dear friend, especially for the stereotype lifestyles they were living (partied like successful college students). Maybe everyone else was a little smarter and followed the military to escape. This group not doing that, and being the ones that had the means to document... is pretty predictable actually. Among those types, something is pretty much guaranteed when it was a going away party. And you all know the crowd: always a mixture of artist and young business folk.

I saw the movie tonight and thought it was pretty entertaining for what it was MEANT to be. A movie clip filmed by a bunch of random young people. I went to see it with two of my other friends and they absolutely hated it. Why did they hate it? Because they didn't get the closure they wanted that a normal movie gives you. It didn't fit their little mold of what a movie was supposed to be. So they gave me crap for picking that movie (even though they were indecisive between this or the bucket list). Sorry, just ranting cause I'm still kind of frustrated. Too bad the bucket list got 40% on rotten tomatoes and this movie is at 70%. LOL

my parents went and saw it because my mom knew it was a monster movie and always enjoyed those. Well they hated it. One, the camera drove them nuts (and my mom gets motion sicknses), and two they hated how, essentially, it went against the movie grain. It didn't have a perceivable plot, but that's the end goal for this film: to not perceive a plot, while actually having a full plot that structures the entire thing. My parents hated the lack of closure and lack of overall plot. With the experienced viewer (when it comes to the style these guys bring), this entire thing just seems like gold for what it was really trying to be. A video document of a random group of people. That seemed readily apparent in the trailer, and everyone wrote it off. That part that's in the original teaser is a shining example of the movie: start with a regular party, you know.. that overall portion ends up lasting 20 minutes. Then the shit hits the fan, and they continue with the camera. Why did everyone forget that?

Yeah, no kidding. I think they expected it to be like ID4 or something. What is weird is that they expected all these ideal things, but then got all pissed off that the footage survived the rubble falling on it after the bombing. I was just like................................. Also, they were pissed that that they didn't find anything out about the aliens. It sucks that I was outnumbered and was the only one who enjoyed it.

I threw up in my mouth at least once and had to sit through the last 20mins with my eyes shut and sun glasses on. The movie wasn't bad but I just can't stand the camera swaying back and forth like that for long. I had simillarly unpleasant viewings during The Kingdom and Bourne Ultimatum though not nearly as bad. However I was fine with both of those watching them later in my home.

I can relate with getting motion sickness. Keep the dawn camera still people always complain about this for ufos but of course not when a monster attacks new york city. People think you are suppose to not keep the camera still only when a monster is attacking a city well I have news no one keeps a camera still no matter what they are recording.
