Whoa. So this will allow anyone to install the CM ROM with zero technical skills?

This works great, but the fact is that you aren't able to go back to your stock ROM if you so choose. You are stuck on CyanogenMod with no back up plan.

I realize this should be for the technically inclined person, but the fact is that you know the average consumer will do it and not have any idea how to get back to stock (Touchwiz, Sense, etc..) if they don't like stock Android.

See here for what I mean: http://androidfannetwork.com/2013/11/13/cyanogenmod-installer-how-to-and-review/

I don't think this is a good idea. Honestly, people jump into things without understanding what they're doing, this is just going to make it worse.

If we had standardized platforms (like PCs) so that it was easy enough to reflash them this wouldn't be a big deal, but unfortunately with today's locked down platforms it is very easy for things to go wrong, and then you are SoL.

I don't think it's too hard to learn how to flash back using Odin or another program. This will force people to learn how to flash back to stock ROMs .

unlocked bootloaders by default for most Samsung phones

Ok, that makes sense.

I thought there was a different reason at first. I thought I had read somewhere about Samsung being a major investor in the new Cyanogen Inc, but it seems I was mistaken. One of Cyanogen Inc's. founders/executives used to work for Samsung, so my confusion must have come from that.

I gave this a try on my Nexus 4. First few steps went smoothly. Ran the app on Windows and on the phone. Followed a few simple steps.

The fit hit the shan though when it went to installing it's recovery software. It acted like it did that part fine. But I already had a custom recovery installed. And after it tried to go to the next step of installing software, it timed out and failed.

I rebooted the phone, but at this point it's soft bricked. And the CM Installer can't do anymore.

I used Wug's Toolkit to reload the stock OS. I am pretty sure that custom recovery I had probably screwed up the process. So I'll give it another try in a few moments now that the phone is in a completely stock state now.

Well I guess I won't be retrying in a few moments. Stupid Google Play store now won't let me redownload the app. Error 923 downloading?

You could not have thought this would have been a good idea with a custom recovery and was trying for the hell of it.

Tried this on my Note 2 and installed 4.3.1. First time I rooted/installed a ROM on my Note 2 and I love it so far. Especially with the 4.4 launcher that Google just released.

I have cm installed and my phone will not download the update. Would I be able to install this and get the latest build even though i already have cm installed?

Actually I see no reason why a tool designed for simplicity wouldn't be able to overwrite the existing custom recovery. I've used other tools that had no problem doing just that. While I'm not shocked it was an issue, it seems like it shouldn't haven't been an issue.

Anyway, a person that was able to put a custom recovery on their phone in the first place can easily resolve this hiccup, so it's not a big problem anyway.

After getting back to stock and finally getting CM Installer to install on the phone again. The install process went smoothly. I clicked install, went to to the bathroom. Came back and it was done.

Now I'm setting up a CM account on my phone. I got one complaint about this step. The "I agree..." check box is literally a few pixels above the "Cancel" button and I ended up canceling and having to start over. Ugh. Cancel button needs to be moved further away.

Welp, it's on my Nexus 4 and I'm thinking... "Meh."

Seems kinda pointless on a Nexus phone I guess. I'm happy to see Play Store is included and I'm not made to go side load that manually. But other than a few added things I can tweak, and about the only one of them I really care about is battery percentage, it doesn't really excite me. And I always worry about a negative impact on battery life with custom ROMs.

Now if I had a Samsung phone with all that TouchWiz carp, I'd probably be excited to have a simpler way of putting CM on it.
