Bricked is nice but the newest kernel (0.4) has a sleep of death bug. I'm using the latest rom with the 0.35 kernel because of that.

I just installed ICS on my touchpad yesterday. Omfg does it fly. Smooth as iOS, looks tons better and it is only alpha!. Only problem I have is the email client not working. Gmail is working, though, as well as the Comcast app. So I still have access to email. I love it!

lol. don't know about that. my iPad 2 next to my CM9 Touchpad disagrees.

However, CM9 is 10x more useful than CM7 on a Touchpad, I'll say that. I just wish they figured out battery drain issues.

Yeah, people like saying "smooth as IOS" a lot without seeming to know what it entails.

For example, people kept saying "My Android Broswer is as smooth as the iOS one" back in the CM7.1 Gingerbread days.

It's not even close. The iPhone browser runs at a slick 60fps while the Gingerbread one ranges from 20 to 50fps. I guess when they overclocked and got minimum 30fps they thought it was the slickest ever. Opera Mobile did maintain the steady 60fps though and was equal to the iOS one.

With that said, Bricked does run very smoothly. I find the stock Trebuchet launcher to be rather slow and juddery though so I've been running ADW.Ex to pickup the slack.

Ok, no need to be condescending. I meant transitions are very fliud, opening & closing apps, going from page to page, resuming from locked.I have used an ipad2, so I am not unfamiliar. Is it as polished? Of course not. But it is as smooth as ios in what I am talking about. AND IT IS ONLY AN ALPHA.
I am very impressed. It is smoother than Honeycomb & GB for sure.

Any easy way to measure the FPS of the display in Android. I'd like to try out a few things.

The FPS of the display is usually locked at near 60fps. Apps run anywhere they want below that depending on how inefficiently they're coded (I say this because well coded apps will run pegged to 60fps even on Android 2.2, for example, Opera Mobile or Launcher Pro). FPS2D will show you what your device's FPS is (my HTC G2 is at 58FPS while my Touchpad running Android is 60FPS).

If you want to test the stock browser's scrolling performance, you can try Vellamo's three "flinger" tests. The stock browser usually gets between 20-50FPS unless it's one of the select devices (and ROMs) that have webkit acceleration enabled (XRon for the Touchpad has this for instance, I believe the Evo3D stock ROM has it too). Of course, ICS has webkit acceleration as well which is why the ICS Browser is so much nicer.

As for everything else, you'll have to eyeball it. I can usually tell the difference between each 10FPS. 50-60FPS is extremely smooth though and once you've seen it a few times it's very recognizable since it's so different (although it's possible some people just can't see the difference).

One of the harshest tests I've found is opening the XDA Forums in Expanded View. It pulls in a huge website with lots of images making for a difficult test. Once the page is fully loaded, it's very noticeable when you're using a properly tiling and accelerated browser.

I've been holding off installing CM because my Touchpad is used once a week for a couple hours for Skype video conference, and from what I understand the video camera doesn't work. Is that still true?

The Touchpad doesn't get much use other than that, and I suspect that it will get a lot more use if I have Android on it, but still I am hesitant to do it.

I realize that the CM installation allows us to dual boot, so maybe I don't have to worry about it, get CM9 installed, and just boot back to webOS once a week?

Yeah, it's super easy to boot back to WebOS and update the CM9 once you've got the tools loaded on there.

An amusing story about how popular Cryogenmod is becoming....

I just got a call from my father in law asking me to install "That Android project" on his HP Touchpad. I don't know who told them about it, but he's in his 60's and barely has enough computer skills to check his own e-mail without help.

I told him that he should probably wait for a final release version... I certainly don't want to void his HP warranty and make myself the sole support contact for an OS that's still in Alpha!
Do it.

So I decided to do it. I hadn't watched Netflix in a while and I do light browsing on the sofa or on the toilet with my Touchpad so I figured I might as well make the experience more enjoyable. I installed CM9 .6 and updated GAPPS to get the app store working and away I went.

I like it. It's a big change from CM7 and much much better. Everything just seems to work better and I am really liking ICS on the Touchpad. Amazon appstore worked no problem and every other app I've used before is still working just fine.

I highly recommend CM9 to anyone that's been using CM7 unless something like Netflix is a deal breaker for you.

I don't even miss Netflix, the rest of the experience outweighs the loss IMO.

I am currently running CM9 alpha .6 on my touchpad and once in awhile the touch screen doesn't respond to any command after waking up from a sleep. Is this what is refer to Sleep of Death (SOD)? Is this a known bug? The only thing I can do is reboot by pressing HOME+POWER button. Anyway to fix this? I am not running any Bricked Kernel.

That is SOD. I haven't had one since using the latest Bricked kernel and upping the lowest frequency to 300 something mhz.

I put CM9.0.6 on my Touchpad a week ago. It was kinda neat. But I ended up going back to CM7.

Main problem I was having is the touch sensitivity didn't seem right. Often when try to tap something, the screen moves instead. I found myself having to double and triple tap constantly.

Thought maybe it was because I upgraded from XRONified CM7 to CM9. So I used the ACME Uninstaller, completely removed Android and started fresh, but still had the same issue with the screen sensitivity.

The stock and Chrome browsers seemed a tad on the slow side compared to Dolphin on CM7 as well.
