I could have used this deal a few months ago. I've been on back order from del-ton since June 3rd . I did just score a 22 conversion for 160 shipped and 500 rounds of silver bear for 135. Now all I need is the rest of my gun.

Whoa, tempting...

RB, who makes your lower receiver?

Just being kinda nitpicky, I don't like it when the upper and lower receiver don't have matching finishes. But that won't make a damn of a difference in the heat of battle of course

Hey Joony - lower is CMMG. I believe all of the CMMG bargain bins are CMMG lower. Upper is a crapshoot.

I am planning on ordering on Wednesday. Has anyone tried getting a handpicked one? Just wondering if there is much of a quality difference or if I should just try and see what I get.

The usual reasons - 1960s ergonomics vs 1940s ergonomics and an improvement in accuracy.

Is CMMG a decent company for AR-15s? I've only purchased one, and it was a Colt. Granted it cost a heck of a lot more. Are these rifles decent quality?

Misle did you go with luck of the draw or did you pay to have it hand picked? Can you see anything wrong with it? I think I am going to go ahead and pick one up tomorrow, just gotta decide if I should pay the $25 extra. Also anyone have any suggestions on a carry handle?

RagingBITCH: Glad to see you got yours. Most people prefer the rear sight to be as far back as possible. AR's with built-in sights have them pretty much at the far rear of the receiver.

Chunkee: Well, it's a personal judgment call. Would you rather have a Miata or a Jeep CJ? Kind of hard to make such a decision, they come from separate worlds. Why not both? AK's are generally cheaper to buy and cheaper to feed (steel-cased 7.62x39 runs cheaper than brass .223). AK's are also more reliable, but they are far less capable of outstanding accuracy (I don't think I've ever heard of a sub-MOA AK, i.e. one that shoots less than 1" groups at 100 yards... happens all the time for AR's). The sights and triggers on AR's are much better, and it's much easier to add optics to a flat-top AR than to any kind of AK. All that said, I own 2 AK's and one AR (along with extra unbuilt parts kits and/or receivers for both types). I have about 20x more rounds of 7.62x39 than I do .223, so I shoot the AK's more.

smackababy: CMMG has a good reputation in the AR world. People pay more for Colt because of the brand name, but they're really not any better than most others IMO.

I just happen to be from the same area that CMMG is located (Mid-Missouri). There's a store in Columbia that has a dealer relationship with CMMG and they have a bunch of the rifles in the store, so I handpicked my own rifle.

From the ones in the store, maybe 1 in 12 rifles had a scratch on the barrel. All the others looked new.

Hand picking will be cosmetic only. I wouldn't bother.

Transfer prices are regional guys. Some parts of the country $50 is normal. Others its $20. I know of a few that do indeed charge $100 if it is something they sell. They sell ARs.

I spent hours driving around to every place imaginable because people online swore up and down that you could have a handgun shipped out of state for $20-30. Not over here. Cheapest I found was $65. Maybe if you are friends with the guy behind the counter you get a special rate, but $100 was the going rate just about everywhere.

The only place in my area that does the $20 charge is a pawn shop and only if they approve of your purchase. By approve I mean they like the gun. I purchased a CZ online and they like CZs so it was cool. I don't know how they feel about Sigs or Glocks.

Is this a better choice than the WASR AK 47s? Why?

Because you can fix it yourself with out a rivet jig and a 2 ton press. Because WASRs are the bottom of the barrel and CMMG is rock solid.

Yeah the gun shop in my town that just opened a few days ago wanted $50 for the transfer. I went 5 minutes south to another holster maker that charges $10 for the transfer.

While we are on topic of transfers, does anyone know good shops that do not charge a lot for FFL transfer in Chicagoland area?
