CMOS Battery Needs to be Replaced?

Hi guys,

My computer has been going into a pre-BIOS boot loop after I let it go into sleep mode. The only way I've been able to get past this is to take my BIOS battery out for a while and place it back in. After this, it cycles a few more times before posting. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this? Thanks!

I finally installed that replacement battery and the thing worked fine starting up from sleep for a few days, but today the same problem is back. Could it be my motherboard is failing?

It would be helpful if you post the specs for your PC as well as what operating system you're running. As a first diagnostic step, I'd suggest you note your current BIOS settings and then try a reset to factory defaults which will establish a known baseline to work from. If the problem persists, run this command from an elevated command prompt: chkdsk /x /v /r /b , because a corrupt volume bit-map or incorrectly reported free space will wreak havoc when the system tries to wake from low-power states. If no change, try a known good PSU as these same symptoms will also commonly occur as the result of a failing PSU.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I'll try to reset my BIOS settings and report my findings. In the meantime, my PC specs are as follows:

XFX builds a good PSU but after browsing extended user reviews about your mobo, on multiple websites, it seemed the number one complaint of negative reviewers was the boot-loop problem showing up after a period of time. That's just the impression I got so I'd still suggest you complete the three previous diagnostic steps and I'd add that you might want to run memtest to make sure that you don't have a bad stick of memory that's causing the problem.

That's a P67 board and, if you're good with your other hardware, you might think about just picking up a good used Z77 1155 LGA board, as an inexpensive way to upgrade your old windows 7 box, in the event your Gigabyte has gone south.
