CMOS Check Sum Error

Hello,

I have a GIGABYTE Motherboard - EP45-UD3R REV 1.1 with 8 gigs of ram. Desktop was built in 2009 and working perfectly. My operating system is windows 10 pro. 2 days ago I noticed the date & time was incorrect. So I purchased a Duracell CR 2032 battery and installed it. in the CMOS I reset the date and time & SAVED the info. Now when I shutdown the desktop for the day, and boot up the next day I get a "CMOS CHECK SUM ERROR" - 1) default or 2) next good etc.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this error?

probably just a defective cmos battery.

I found the problem. remove tape on back of battery.

I can't help myself . . . a couple stories . . . My Moms is 91-years-old. She's the original bags-boxes-and bottles lady -- a hoarder. And she thinks scotch tape fixes everything.

But I can think back to my civil service days. Here and there, you'd wonder how some people got promoted. There was this one woman in our office, GS-15, renting an apartment for enormous rent on Connecticut Avenue, maybe 55 years old. My colleague had continued to advise her to buy a house -- but no way. She had a perfectly good late-model American car, probably purchased for $15K to $20K -- three years old. She sold it to her apartment handyman for $3K, then went out and bought a new Acura.

The Acura was a good car, but what a waste for the one she had.

The IT folks had installed all new Ethernet cabling in the office. One day, the woman is complaining that she can't print to the shared LaserJet. The IT people came back, checked the NIC, initially couldn't figure it out. Then, they found the problem.

She'd pounded a two-penny nail through the center of the twisted-pair cable, crucifying it to the wall. Apparently, the cable was a bit long, bowed out from the wall, and disturbed her with its presence.

When asked, she said "I can't stand putting tape on the walls. So I nailed it. What's wrong with that?!"

And -- this isn't some "woman thing" of mine. I worked for, and knew many bright, competent women. Of course, I could expound about the political appointees of that era: dumber than a sack of hammers, and nuttier than squirrel shit.

But the nail-through-the-Ethernet story still causes me to laugh.
