CMOS Checksum error

Just built a new system.
Athlon XP 2600+
512mb PC4000
80gb Seagate
ATi 9600 128MB

I set all the mobo configurations to auto but accidentally set the FSB to 200Mhz. It booted up but I could install windows. When i noticed the problem i quickly lowered the FSB back to 166Mhz. But now i get a
"CMOS Checksum error - BIOS set to default".
I cleared the CMOS and even changed the battery - but i still get the SAME error message.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

go into the Bios and set your settings and save them, restart, shoudl go away, did for me

Thanks for the reply. I tried that. But still same error msg. Could the board be bad?

I do believe the BIOS went bad. Call Asus and they will send you another priority mail. Or atleast they 'should' react that way. Atleast MSI Tyan treat this way.

Hopefully they do. My ECS bios died once while I was flashing it, and ECS were only willing to send me one from Taiwan at my expense. I ended up getting someone in China to flash a new one for me and send it for a bit cheaper. I think computer service is much more convenient in China because they have all kinds of services available in a lot of places. There are places where you can bring your bios chip and they can flash a new bios for you, or sell you a new chip.

Check your cmos clear jumper, that message will appear if the jumper is on the wrong set of pins.

Thank you for the suggestion. But I checked the jumper many times.

What speed is the CPU coming up at now?

load the defaults (optimized is usually fine) and save, that SHOULD solve it, if not something's screwy, either the board/bios/battery.
