From times to times, I receive this error
"Error CMOS/GPNV
Press Del to enter setup
Press F1, F2 to load the default"

I hate when that happens because I have to reconfigure my Bios all over again!, and now, it seems to do it more frequently.

thanks for your help.

Have you replaced the CMOS battery? I've heard that some of the ECS K7S5A batteries die early.

I had that happen once. I then replaced the battery with an equivalent from Radio Shack... and the problem never recurred.

www.ocworkbench.com had a slew of lore about the K7S5A battery. The contacts on the K7S5A battery holder are a bit dicey -- be a little careful with the replacement. Chances are, the new battery will cost <$3.

Quake,

The same thing has happened to me twice or so, .............. I have the Amptron K7 830LM version of the K7S5A board and I replaced the cmos battery with a new one (after the first time) .................. so possibly the battery is running down faster than it should, or something else is going on ............ ?

I to have had this problem with a couple of PC's. On closer inpection, I did find that the battery clip was loose, but did seem to make contact. I tested the battery voltage and check to see whether it would sustain its voltage, which was all ok.
I did try and contact ECS and ask there technical department about the problem, but an answer was not forthcoming.
I did try to change the battery anyway (to a Duracell one), just in case. The problem cleared for over a month, then came back with avengance.
I personally suspect a fault with either the battery clip or the CMOS NVRAM itself.
However, my supplier didn't seem to have any problems changing the motherboard immediately, although they also had few of these boards with problems themselves.
However, not to be totally negative, I have seen more machines with these motherboards in without any problems at all and very stable.

Would this also be what's wrong with the brand new K7S5A I just installed.

The first time I tried to boot it up, I the msg:
Press Del to enter setup
Press F1, F2 to load the default"

When I try to boot it up again, it'll post, but the screen either goes blank or if I try to enter the CMOS, the computer powers down
