CMOS setting wrong and not responding

Hope osmeone can help me out here.

I've just tried building a computer using this ECS k7s5a motherboard and amd 1800 which I purchased as a combo from Frys. This is my third system I'm buildling and I've encountered a problem I'm not too sure about how to progress.

Everything has been installed or plugged in. I turned the machine on and the screen I first saw was DOS-like; said something about primary, sec drives not found. then it said cmos battery low. cmos settings wrong. press f1 to enter setup, f2 to continue.

I changed the battery on the motherboard and retried again after attempting the CLEAR CMOS procedure in the manual. This tiem the message I got was that CMOS settings wrong. Again at the bottom it says press f8 to enter setup but nothing seems to happen when I pressed it. What can I do now?

This model is notorious for dropping it's CMOS setting and similar problems. Just set up the BIOS properly, and try not to unplug it or switch it off at the PSU. It should give you little trouble.

Check out the ECS website for the correct CMOS jumper settings.
Some of these boards came with the jumper in the RESET position and the manual was wrong on the correct position.
Their website has the correct info.

When you said they came with wrong CMOS settings. You mean those three pins of which a certain way the jumper is set, is for resest and another for Normal?

Remove the battery and wait a few seconds.

Put it back and try again.

I've tried that when it first said cmos memory low.
Currently the problem is that it's saying CMOS memory error. I've tried changing the two sticks of 128mb pc100 ram to pc2700 512mb but still the same message occurs.

I'll try to post a picture of the screen when I get home.
