Looking at RTINGS monitor reviews got me remembering the just plain dumb reviews/overviews of monitors I would see on CNET 15 to 20 years ago.
There was nothing mentioned concerning actual specs. It was always about the shape, connections, buttons, and aesthetics. No mentions of nits, resolution, response times, panel technology or anything actually important for a display.
It's as if management went to someone within the company and asked:
"Do you know how to hook up a monitor and make it work?"
"Yes? Well then you're our new monitor review specialist."
