I would have probably conserved the gas in my vehicle and tried to find some wood. Gas + Fire + Wood is a relatively good combination for a lonngg time.
I was confused by the sheriff crying though... hadn't he seen worse incidents in his career?

I would have used the oil in my car to burn a fire.
however all the wood around them was wet so I doubt it would have done anything?
im sure when the tires were burning they didnt just sit there, they tried to keep it from going..

I thought everyone knew that if you get stuck in a snow storm in your car you should stay in the car...your chances of survival out in the elements are not good and the longer you go the lower your chances of survival are.
try saying that after you've spent seven days in a car without sign of help and your children and wife starving in front of you.
Yet he's gone and they survived...
It's sad but I think he's gone because he made a terrible decision...a couple of them actually.

I am pissed they had to pay for the helicopters themselves as the authorities were not ready to search yet.

Why are you pissed? Sure it was extra helicopters that found the wife and kids but there are only so much resources to go around to search for people. There are hundreds of people missing each and every day. If he did not work for cnet who likely had media connections to make a big story you probably wouldn't even know about.
