I would have used the oil in my car to burn a fire.

however all the wood around them was wet so I doubt it would have done anything?

im sure when the tires were burning they didnt just sit there, they tried to keep it from going..

Wet green wood doesn't burn with any heat (if you can get it to burn at all).

They put their all into this one, and they probably missed it by less than a day.

He lived a fuller life than most of us. He had a wife and 2 kids while the rest of us are raiding Molten Lava as a lvl 60 Hunter in WoW and bitching on TeamSpeak when my guildmate wipe in a raid.

yes, very sad, i'll miss seeing him on cnet reviews..and even sadder for his family.

I agree, he was a hero, didn't matter if he made it back alive or not in my book..still a hero, after day of being stranded he decided to go out and try to find help for his family even if the odds were against him, he tried.

RIP, and compassion for his family.

most don't have the wrench needed to drain the oil from the car.

I would just keep using the dip stick
He had 2 matches on him. That would have done it, but there was nothing left to burn

Who's to say he didn't shed a tear over other heartbreaking incidents too?

I shed a tear too.. This mans will to live was near superhuman and the fact that he did not make it is very heartbreaking.. VERY

Can you imagine that the Sherrif had to see his beautiful young family for all those days while they searched for him and then had to come back to tell them the news

I thought everyone knew that if you get stuck in a snow storm in your car you should stay in the car...your chances of survival out in the elements are not good and the longer you go the lower your chances of survival are.

try saying that after you've spent seven days in a car without sign of help and your children and wife starving in front of you.

Yet he's gone and they survived...

It's sad but I think he's gone because he made a terrible decision...a couple of them actually.

No one can decide that without being there. They had to burn the tires off the car for heat, that's pretty bad. he waited 4 days prior to venturing off on his own...to me that's taking it safe.

I am pissed they had to pay for the helicopters themselves as the authorities were not ready to search yet.

sigh...it's sad to think that:

the man died face down because he probably didn't have any more strength to go on any longer and just collapsed on the ground, but he knew he had to get back to his family somehow...that's gotta be the saddest thing you've ever heard

the good thing is that the helicopter hired by the family spotted the wife and kids and were able to save his legacy. otherwise, it would be even sadder.

They just finished the press conference. He died from exposure and hypothermia. No other injuries from his hike through the rough terrain. He walked over 10 miles.

Why are you pissed? Sure it was extra helicopters that found the wife and kids but there are only so much resources to go around to search for people. There are hundreds of people missing each and every day. If he did not work for cnet who likely had media connections to make a big story you probably wouldn't even know about.

No but my point is people going missing almost every day across this country. The government cannot put all its resources into going out and trying to finding a single person/family. Why should this family get anymore attention than the next from the government at least?
