break the law, be prepared to deal with unfairness. just my view.

You don't allow CNN on your TV? I take a similar stand with my dog and the leather couch, but at least I'm justified.

And Fox News? *shudder*

If you want a less biased approach to world news, watch the CBC, or better yet, the BBC.

FWIW, I believe the movie you're referring to is The Siege.

All news outlets have their peculiar slants and perspectives. There is no such thing as a neutral news sources. A neutral news source is not a news source that presents the news in a manner that pleases you!

you are the ignorant fool, "lucky" -- there are too many ties and influences in the major media for it to be any different.

so its your position that all editorial decisions at all TV and newspapers are made from a corporate level and influenced by the govt/military? Do you have any experience working in the industry? What is your opinion based on?

First and foremost, I didn't ask about the reason for the detainment. Yes, these people were there illegally. My point is, when 500-700 are arrested IN THE SAME PLACE AT THE SAME TIME (this is different from the #2 post) that is very newsworthy. You cannot contest that.

And for whoever said I was watching the wrong channel, I don't watch TV. I get all my news from BBC online, The Independent, and CBC.

Perhaps you should try looking at a non-American news agency to see a different twist on a story before forming your own judgements.

Unbelievable. Our media absolutely sucks. The selective journalism CNN does is so heavily biased that Americans simply do not hear about half the events the rest of the world hears about, let alone get both sides of the story. That is poor journalism. My point will follow:

There was a movie, I forget the name of it, where every male Muslim in America was detained after terrorist threats. It caused huge protests as the very fundamentals of America were threatened (as it was during the Japanese Internments of WWII). It made for a great plot, but was fairly unrealistic.

Now, 500-700 arrests are made in Los Angelas. The people arrested were Muslims from 10 Muslim countries required by a recent US Law to register before December 16th. Once they complied, they were detained. 500-700 arrests - all Muslim males over the age of 16. All because they complied with the law. Okay, regardless of whether they deserved to be arrested, or the method of arrests, or even the registration law itself was not discussed, CNN did not even REPORT on this.

Find out some details on BBC where it made the front page of Americas News - and front page as a link on the main news section. 500-700 men arrested all with the same religion is big news ANYWHERE.

So I go to CNN to find the American defense or explanation of the incident and lo and behold, CNN DOES NOT EVEN REPORT IT! 500-700 people arrested of the same religion and the largest new agency in the States does not report it. On the 3rd article of the WEST section of the US News, there is something that mentions the PROTESTS by Muslims following the incident. They reported on the PROTESTS. Unbelievable. They did not mention how many people were arrested, why they were arrested, in which manner they were arrested, the obvious similarities between everyone who was arrested.

Ok, now before you reply, I don't want this to turn into whether or not Muslims are terrorists, or whether or not the registration law is constitutional, or anything of that nature. I want to discuss the selective media we as Americans face.

Didn't read this long post, but in response to the title, i agree. CNN blows. I've found it to be extremely biased.

I prefer the BBC if I have to go with one western media source. Still better, is, as ive mentioned before, to go with 'reputable' media sources of both sides of the coin.

You implicitly are critiquing the detainment, therefore our outrage towards your stand. Don't backtrack. And there can be cases where 500-700 people are arrested at the same time and its not a huge deal, perhaps at a protest? Mass arrests are not completely uncommon, although I am expecting more news sources to pick this up.

And for whoever said I was watching the wrong channel, I don't watch TV. I get all my news from BBC online, The Independent, and CBC.

We did look at a different news source, the BBC article you linked to, and we all disagreed with you. I for one also occasionally look at foreign media, the German FAZ is good I believe. Unfortunately I am held back in my lack of knowing many foreign languages, otherwise I'd probably read Le Monde, etc... Don't try to turn this around by telling those people who told you to look at better sources to look at better sources.

How did I implicitly critique the detainment? I merely said it was newsworthy. 500-700 people arrested at the same event is newsworthy. Be it at a protest (as you mentioned) or during the registration imposed by the INS. How about you read what I wrote again before jumping to a conclusion? My disgust is not with the detainment, but the fact that CNN did not report it.

I don't think a single person disagreed that the CNN coverage of the issue was poorly done which was the point of the post. Except for that person who suggested watching FOX instead because CNN is ANTI-American (lol). That is who my comment was directed towards. Again, you failed to read what I wrote.

I'm sure it all made sense in your head before you pressed the REPLY button, but next time get someone to proof-read your post before making yourself look foolish by trying to put words into other people's mouths.

Except for the sheer volume of people being arrested, I don't think there's anything extraordinary here that warrant CNN's attention. If there's one aspect, its on the # of illegals residing here, and how miserably inadequate and incompetent the INS is to even enforce basic immigration laws.

Formerly conjoined twins to return to Guatemala in January
Twin sisters born joined at the head and separated in a marathon surgery have been cleared by doctors to return to Guatemala.

Man sentenced for monkeys in pants
Customs officials opened his suitcase and a bird of paradise flew out but that was nothing compared to what they found in his pants -- a pair of pygmy

Apparently CNN feels the above two stories have more relevance to Americans than a newly contraversial immigration law which led to the arrest of 500-700 people. Hrm, if your priorities are knowing about twins returning to Guatemala, then I guess this argument will be fruitless to continue.

America as a nation has over 1 million people incarcerated in long term facilities with probably equal that number in short term facilities. Ontop of that immigration issues rate very lowly with most american's plate. "La Migra" rounds up and deports 1000's of illegal hispanic workers every single day in this country and you expect us to blink because they arrested half a thousand for visa violations that originated from Islamic countries with a history of radicalism? This nation has 6 million illegal immigrants (1/4 the population of Canada) within it's borders, I wouldn't think it's newsworthy unless they round up about a million of them and deport them. So give CNN a call after they have rounded up a million.
